Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. I pressed my alarm clock with no fear. I woke up, went downstairs, made myself some cereal and went outside. I was thrilled to be outside and to breathe (almost) fresh air with no fear at all.
Then something hit my mind.
I know my father is on the loose, roaming around, trying to find me and kill me. That homophobic scum! Ugh, just gets me so riled up!
Alex meets me outside.
"Hey dude", he said, "Wonderful day, huh?"
"Yeah", I replied, "Pretty darn good, heh."
"Heh, yeah. Anyways, what are we gonna do today?"
"I dunno, we can walk around town I guess."
"Hah, boring. We need to do something fun not just use our legs to move around a sidewalk."
"It's good exercise."
"Whatever, you do you, I'll do me, okay?"
"Alright, whatever you say."
Alex went back inside and I started walking around the neighborhood. Lots of the houses that were destroyed were rebuilt and the school was almost done, so I didn't have long until I had to go back and do more work. But I went to GameStop and bought some more Xbox games to play, and also some prepaid gift cards for Netflix and Hulu. I walked back home and went upstairs. Alex was on the bed playing Xbox.
"Hey, I'm back." I said.
"Shush, my K/D is great right now!" He said, really into COD.
"My K/D, it's my account."
"Whatever! You should be thanking me! What's in the bags?"
"Just more games and some gift cards."
"Ah. Oh, no, no no! Goddamnit I died! Ugh!!"
"I should be thanking you?"
"Shut up!"
I laughed then sat on my bed looking through social media.
Then I get a message... from my father. I went to delete his contact but I wanted to see the message he sent.
It was a picture of him by the front door of the house.
He said "Get ready, boy, you're going to die tonight. 😈"
All that braveness drained from my body. I felt cold.
Then I heard the door downstairs creak open.
