Five days after Kousei ended up in the hospital after a devastating accident that caused him to lose several of his memories, he began to act differently from who he was before the accident. He became irritable and he was always panicking at night. Most of all, the nurses would always see him crying on his own and ask them about his relationship with Tsubaki and Watari whenever they visit him. They do visit and talk to him even if they know that their friend wasn't able to remember who they were. They seemed to know him a lot but he can't even remember a single thing about them and that made him feel uneasy. He wanted to make them happy and tell them that he remembered them already but since he can't remember a single memory about them, he always fidget around them and he's uncomfortable.
After they leave, tears would fall down his eyes. He felt too disappointed at himself and mused about why they know him while he doesn't know who they were. He knew their names again after they introduced themselves to him and they told him that they were Watari Ryota and Tsubaki Sawabe. Those names were familiar to him but he was confused about why they look different from the memories he could remember. He could see their resemblance to the faces he does know but they look too old for him. He also kept asking them who Miyazono Kaori since it's the only name he could remember but could not discern how she looks like. His friends and some nurses had always been silent about it. They do not know how to answer him when he questions them about Kaori. It was true that she's important to him and he was actually in love with her but they don't know how they would tell him about it.
Surprisingly, Watari and Tsubaki decided not to tell anything about her when they knew that Kaori doesn't want to pressure him to remember her. She wanted Kousei to remember without forcing any memory about her. It shocked them as they want Kousei to remember her and his feelings for him that tragically disappeared after he had an accident but Kaori was determined to let him naturally remember her.
That day, he looked around his room and he was so surprised to realize that he's alone. He doesn't have any nasal cannula anymore but he's still pretty much in therapy to move his legs and arms before he's completely released. His doctors also already told him about his condition. He knew from them that he's suffering from retrograde amnesia when he was asked to lie down in a strange machine that would scan his brain. After that procedure, he was told to calm down and advised not to force himself to remember his forgotten memories but learning from them that there were truly things he forgot about unwillingly placed him in a very difficult position. He sighed deeply. He wanted to get better for everyone already. He's too fed up with people worrying about him.
"You're awake!" Seto Hiroko told him after she entered his room. He looked at the clock and found out that it was already nine a.m in the morning.
Then, he remembered about his sick mother. He wondered if his mother had already been released from the hospital or she's still resting after he spoke harshly to her after he played his piano after the competition he competed in. He also heard that he had the accident after he left the competition he attended that made him curious about his mother.
