Emma remained lying on her bad, talking herself deeper into believing, Regina would have replaced her and she wasn't good enough for her teacher.
Some time during the day Mary Margaret knocked on Emmas door, bringing her lunch and offering her to talk but Emma just shook her head and sent her mother away.
Long after midnight the blonde finally fell asleep, tears still falling down onto the already wet spot on the mattress.
Regina also couldn't think about anything else than Emma. Just as the last word had left Emmas mouth, Reginas mind turned off. Nothing made sense anymore. They were just joking around, flirting a little. Weren't they?!
With the phone still on her ear, her mind rotated.
What did just happen?!
"Emma?" Regina desperately whispered into the phone, hoping Emma could still somehow hear her.
Deep in her thoughts, she didn't realize her phone slipping out of her hand. The loud crash of it landing on the floor brought her back to reality.
"Fuck!" Regina cursed and jumped up. Gripping her phone, she hastily dialed Emmas number.
But it didn't ring.
"Emma! Turn on your phone!" She screamed out of distress.
The poor teacher started to sweat. She had to explain everything to Emma! She had to talk to her!
Calling again, she waited till the beep came and said:" Emma, please call me back! That was a misunderstanding! Let me explain. Please"
She called again multiple times, hoping Emma just hadn't had any signal. But nothing.
"Emma, please..." She weakly whispered as she tossed the phone aside and let herself fall onto the bed. She buried her face into the pillow next to her and screamed into it with full force. Until she realized... it still smelled like Emma. Inhaling deeply, her grip around it loosened and a tear fell onto the smooth surface.
"Please don't leave me"
Long after lunchtime, Regina decided to go and take a shower. She went into the bathroom and her eyes focused on something that normally wasn't there. A blonde hairband lay next to her toothbrush. Emma must have forgotten it. Another tear escaped her eye as she put it on her wrist and tangled her fingers into it.
She striped down and stepped into the shower. The only thing on her body, the blonde's hairband.
An hour later, Regina sat on the shower floor. Tears running down her face and sobs wrecking her body. The water had already turned cold a long time ago but Regina didn't realize it. Her eyes were fixed on the band on her hand.
She slowly stood up and turned the water off.
After she brushed her teeth and put on some yoga pants and a big sweater, she grabbed her phone.
No missed calls.
So she tried it again. But no one answered so she decided to write a message.
"Emma, please call me back. I don't understand what happened! There are no other girls! Let us talk about this. Please call me."
Deciding it won't do anyone any good to stare at the phone all day, she took out some tests she had to correct and started doing it. Every once in a while, she glanced at her phone but no one called.
The weekend went by and Emma didn't call back.
On Monday Emma woke up exhausted. She nearly didn't sleep anymore and the dark eyebags visualized that.
Emma knew she had to face her teacher again today but she really didn't want to! So she just lay in bed for another 10 minutes, just thinking about how she would survive this day.
Later then usually she left the house and slowly walked to school. It was raining and Mary Magaret offered to drive her but the blonde declined.
Five minutes too late she entered the classroom, completely soaked. Her heart beat fast, feeling Reginas eyes on her.
"I am sorry, Miss Mills" Emma said hoarsely, eyes already watering again but fixed on the floor, not strong enough to look her teacher in th eye.
Without looking up she nearly ran to her seat and sat down. She took off her beanie and her leatherjacket, which left her in a dry t- shirt, soaked jeans and wet shoes. Every now and then you could hear the water from Emmas wet hair dripping onto the floor.
Silence overtook the class for a few seconds. Emma was sure Reginas eyes were still on her but she didn't dare to look up, not wanting her teacher to see the tears in her eyes.
The brunette cleared her throat and continued the lesson as if nothing happened.
'Well, that's how much I mean to her...' Emma thought and blinked the tears away.
"Hey, Em. You alright?" Ruby asked looking up and down her friend.
"You didn't pick up your phone all weekend. We were trying to reach you." Belle whispered.
Emma looked up and into both her friends eyes. "Sorry" she fake smiled and focused back on the sheet infront of her.
When the bell rang Emma jumped up and tried to rush out as fast as possible. But a familiar voice called her.
"Miss Swan, please come to my desk"
Emma realized that her voice was filled with sadness and as hoarse as her own. She stopped and slowly turned around.
As the last student left the class, Regina closed the door.
"Emma, listen-" Regina started but Emma interrupted her.
"Miss Mills, I am sorry that I was too late for your class. It won't happen again." She was about to turn around and leave the class but Regina started to talk again.
"Emma. Please don't walk away from me. Please let me explain."
Emmas head shot up and she saw her teacher the first time today. She looked tired and as if she had cried just as much as Emma had. Her hair weren't as shiny anymore and although no one, that didn't know the brunette would have noticed, Emma saw that she wasn't doing well.
"Listen, Miss Mills. If you don't want to give me any punishment for coming too late I'd like-" Emma started angrily but something caught her attention and she trailed off. On her teachers arm was a blonde hairband. It looked exactly like hers. In fact she couldn't find it anymore after she left Miss Mills house. "I'd like to go now." Emma finished her sentence and teared her eyes away from the band.
The blonde saw, that Regina shrugged as Emma called her Miss Mills and her facial expression saddened.
"I... just let me ex-" but Regina couldn't finish. Emma walked out the class and shut the door with a loud bang.
A single tear rolled down the brunettes cheek as the students from Reginas next class entered. The laughter of two students immediately fell silent as they saw their teacher.
Regina looked at the two students confused but realized where she was after not even a second. She wiped her tears away with the sleeve of her blazer and stood up. The brunette cleared her throat and sat down at the teachers desk. She put on her cold teachers face and the sadness disappeared from her face. Inside she slowly broke apart.
"Sit down." She told the still confused students
