Chapter 10 - Becomes Reality
After the nightmare last night I didn't manage to fall asleep again. Lucas promised that he would stay with me, which made me feel all warm inside. Normally my nightmares didn't affect me but for some reason, with Lucas being in it, it seemed to haunt me. I don't know what I did wrong to deserve this kind of life. Whatever it was I will regret it for the rest of my life, that's for sure!
"Are you sure you don't want me to stay?" Lucas asked me.
"No, you have a life. Go and live it. Don't let me get in the way of that."
Honestly, I would rather not be left alone. I'm in New York City for God's sake! Anything could happen! He obviously sensed my lying but did not doubt me.
"Alright then. Be sure to ring me it anything happens."
I nodded, touched by his concern and protection over me. With that, he walked out of the hut and closed the door behind him. The place seemed extremely quiet without his presence, but I didn't let it get to me. He will be back soon. He promised he wouldn't be long. I trust him.
Whilst I was waiting, I decided to repay him by cleaning the whole place and making lunch for when Lucas comes back, making myself feel like Snow White. Two hours later and Lucas still hasn't returned. I want to ring him and find out when he is coming back but I don't want him to worry about me. I never liked above worry about me. Where is he? As soon as the question was thought, the front for opened. I felt a wave of relief wash over me. At least he was safe.
"I was beginning to think you left me for dead" I said without turning round.
"He did"
I froze. I needed not to turn round to recognise that voice. He had found me. He had found me in a total different state to where I started. There's no place he can't find.
"Where have you been? Where is James?"
I gulped. Do I tell him the truth or do I lie and stall him until Lucas gets back? The latter sounds much more appealing right now.
"He's gone to the shop with Lucas" I lied. The words rolled off my tongue naturally. I ask impressed with myself.
"Are you lying to me, honey?" He moved closer to me. I dared not to turn to face him. Instead I kept focused on making lunch as he crept up behind me and whispered into my ear.
"We both know what happens when you lie" He reached up and grabbed my hair. My head was yanked backward and a cry left my mouth. My head throbbed in pain.
"Are going man, just like you, messed with me and my business earlier" He pulled a hat out of his jacket.
"L...L...Lucas!" I gasped. "What did you do you him?"
"The real question is what I didn't do to him." He sneered.
I feel the colour drain out of my face. My head was feeling light and dizziness took over. He hurt him. He hurt Lucas.
"If any one else messes with me again...it will be more than one life being lost!"
And without another word, he left me alone again. I didn't carry on with lunch. Instead, I grabbed my coat and followed my instincts. I was going to find Lucas.
