((Lapis' POV))
When math class was over, I packed up my things from class and I waited for Peri to finish packing hers. When she was done we walked out of the classroom together.
"Why'd you call me Peri back there? My name is Peridot," she stated. She sounded confused, as if nobody gave her a nickname before.
"It's my nickname for you...if it's okay, of course...you've had a nickname before though, right?" I replied.
"Well...yeah...but it's an embarrassing one that my mother calls me by and I hate it!"
"Mind if I hear it?" I ask.
She sighed and looked at her feet.
"She calls me Dot," she mumbles, just barely loud enough for me to hear. I try my very best not to burst out laughing, and not hurt her feelings, so I gave her a fake sympathetic look.
"That must suck. But is it okay if I still call you Peri? I think it's really cute and suits you well. You know, a cute name for a cute person." Peridot looks down again and blushes. She blushes so much.
"Yeah I guess it's acceptable...as long as I can call you Lazuli." She walked away before I could okay my new nickname, but I didn't care. I liked the nickname, even if it is just my last name. Although I have permission to call her Peri, I'm a little disappointed that she didn't react to me calling her cute...
((Peridot's POV))

I CANNOT BELIEVE LAZULI CALLED ME CUTE. I don't consider myself cute. I mean, I don't hate my appearance, although I'm not fond of being short, but I'm not cute! If anyone's cute, it's Lapis! But I can't tell her that, I don't want her to think of me differently...unless she already thinks that way of me? But we just met! Why would she like me anyway? I'm just a short little nerd. And she's...well, Lapis! She's pretty, and tall, and ugh! Her eyes! I caught a glimpse of them when Mrs. Rose was introducing me to the class. She has the deepest blue eyes I've ever seen! They're so beautiful! Ugh...I really shouldn't get my hopes up like this. She'll never love me anyways.
