Chapter 11- The "Date"

((Peridot's POV))

When we finally reached our bus stop, Lapis and I awkwardly lifted our heads and picked up our backpacks. Once we got off the bus, Lapis started to talk.
"I should probably call my parents and let them know I'll be gone for a bit."

"Oh me too," I said. I pulled out my cell phone and dialed my mothers number, while Lapis did the same on hers.

"Hello?" She greeted.
"Hey mom. I was just calling to let you know I won't be home right away."
"Oh where will you be?"
"At the park with a new friend."
"Male or female?" She quickly asked.
"Female...but we're just friends. Don't worry mom. I'll be home by dinner time and I'll tell you more."
"Okay Dot. I love you."
"Love you too mom."
"Bye."

I hung up and I saw Lapis was already off the phone. She must have heard most of my conversation. But she had a different expression as she did before.

"You alright Lazuli?" I asked.
"Yeah...I'm fine."
"Can you still come to the park?"
"Yeah.."
"Then what's bothering you?"
"It's nothing...really.." she replied with a fake smile. I knew she was lying, but I know I can't get the truth out of her now. Not yet, at least.

"Well I guess then let's start walking? How do we get there?"
"It's this way," Lapis pointed, still sounding upset.

((Lapis' POV))

"It's this way," I said.
We walked in silence until we reached the park. Or at least, she probably did. I was drowning in the screaming of my thoughts. She knows I'm upset but I can't tell her why. She said it herself...we're just friends. If I told her I was upset because of that, she'd probably never want talk to me again. I'll just have to get over it. It's obvious that she doesn't like me that way. I might as well try to have a good time.

We got to the park, and thankfully, we were the only ones there. I dropped down to the grass and patted the ground next to me, signalling for Peri to sit next to me.

"So whaddya wanna do now?" I asked, lying down now. Peridot followed my actions and lie down next to me.

"I don't know."

"Oh I have an idea!" I said.

"What?"

"I used to do this thing with my ex, when we were still together, we would just sit and ask each other random questions. We did it all the time."

"Sure! I hardly know you, other than you're my age, and have beautiful eyes..." again, she whispered the last part. I decided to play dumb and see if she'd say it to my face.

"Sorry, what was that last part?"

"Oh, I said you...um...have...beautiful eyes?" I didn't think she'd say it! I blushed and said:

"Aww Peri, that's so cute! Thank you!"

"Yeah..." She mumbled back, blushing as well.

"Okay so you first Peri."

"Uh ok...what's your favorite color?"

"Blue," I responded.

"Mine's green," Peri said.

"Cool. Ok my turn. Do you have a crush on anybody?"

She looked over at me and laughed a little.

"Come on Lazuli, I just moved here!" I laughed at her comment.

"I know, I know, I'm just curious!"

"Well...yes...but I shouldn't get my hopes up. It'll never happen...it can't happen." We were sitting up at this point.

"What do you mean, it can't happen? I asked her. She drew her eyes away from me and she looked like she was about to cry.

"Peridot, what's wrong?" She was crying now. "Peri..." I wiped her tears with my hands. "You know you can tell me anything."

She looked up at me, with hot tears still streaming down her face.

"I know...but I shouldn't..." She said, sniffling.

"Peridot what do you mean? Please let me help you," I begged. She looked away again and wiped her tears with her sleeve.

I decided to go for it.

I kissed her. At first she was surprised, but eventually she gave in and kissed back. It wasn't a long kiss, nor was it passionate, but more than just a friendly peck. Her warm tears touched my cheeks, making my own face wet. She had such soft, gentle lips. After a few seconds, she pulled away blushing with a confused look on her face.

"Lapis...Wh-why'd you do that?" She asked me lightly.

"Because, Peridot, I wanted to show you that I'm comfortable with anything you wanna talk about. Even if it means kissing you to calm you down enough to talk to me.

"Well I guess it worked. Thank you Lazuli. I'm sorry you had to see that."

"So what did you mean by that?"

She inhaled deeply and began to explain the cause of her anxiety attack.
