Fading - Two People

My Type - Saint Motel

--

"Tonight the Prime Minister has a formal ball to go to with all of Parliament." Telford reads off Justin's schedule for the day. Something I always end up having to listen to. Telford glances up from her phone, "That means you need a dress."

My knees go weak. "You mean to tell me I have one day to find a ball gown?" I feel anger build up inside me.

"You were not going until this morning. Justin requested his entire cabinet come. Not just he Parliament members. Everyone is scrambling." Telford sounds slightly agitated herself.

"Is it too early in my job to take a vacation day?" I awkwardly smile, hoping Telford grants me one.

She sighs, "No. Given the circumstances. However, this cannot cause any delays on the bills you are supposed to be reading." Telford orders.

"Yes ma'am! Thank you so much!" I give her a hug (despite her obvious discomfort) and sprint out of the room.

To: Justin

The "entire" cabinet has to come to this ball. I see what you're getting at.

I flirtatiously text Justin as I begin my walk to store before I step dead in my tracks. Where the fuck do I go to get a dress? I don't think anyone I know will know where to get one.

From: Justin

;)

Wait. There is one person who would know where to get one...NO! I can't do that, that's cruel. I mentally berate myself for what I'm about to do.

To: Justin

can you do me a favor?

I anxiously walk into a Starbucks and order a triple shot Americano. My anxiety plus this caffeine...oh it's going to be interesting.

From: Justin

Of course.

I take a couple deep breaths before typing the text quickly. My finger hesitate over the blue arrow for what feels like eternity.

To: Justin

Can you ask Sophie where I go to get a dress for this thing?

I saw the read receipt show up, then followed by the three dots in the speech bubble. It stood there for a long time. I know he is hesitant to ask her. Shit, I don't want to ask her at all, but I have no clue what I'm doing. The three dots leave for a moment before popping up again.

From: Justin

She says she'll send some of her old dresses to your apartment later.

My stomach does flips. So much guilt.

To: Justin

Thank you for doing that.

I didn't want to expand on the why I'm so thankful part because I feel like that is pretty obvious. I lock my phone and head back to my apartment to get ready for the dresses.

From: Justin

Can't wait to see you tonight. :)

I blush a little bit as I make my way into my apartment and plop down on the coach trying to decide what to do with my hair and make up. I could do that dark eyeshad-No, I could finally use my Modern Renaissance palette! Do I attempt winged eyeliner or...? I'll try it and if it goes wrong...oh well then. I talk to myself. As I make my way to the bathroom to get my make up situated. I pull out my best (and favorite) highlighter to use tonight and my best contour kit.  I grab my phone and play "7/11" because who doesn't love some Beyonce?
