Many Lives - Andrew Belle

"Oh, surprisingly, not a lot circulating about it." Telford breathes a sigh of relief as she scrolls through her feed. "Just a few twitter accounts and only speculation that's being shut down pretty easily by other false sources."
I wearily smile and place my hand on the small bump pushing up against my shirt. "I'm glad. But good lord, shopping is about to get tough."
Telford stands up from her desk and comes over to sit by me, "Eliza, it will be okay. I know right now it seems stressful, but just keep your head down and order as much as you can online. That will probably be the best option." Her face looks defeated, but her voice has hope in it. "I know it's not ideal, but nothing about the two of you is ideal. You have to look at the silver lining and small wins, or else you're going to hate everything about this."
I feel tears pricking my eyes, goddamn pregnancy hormones, "I know. I just wish I could go by a pair a pants without being scrutinized!" I run both my hands through my hair.
"Telfo-" Justin comes marching into the room and stops when he sees Telford's desk empty. He turns towards us and startles himself, "Eliza?! What's wrong? Everything okay?!" He puts a knee on the ground in order to get level with me. One hand on my thigh, the other my cheek.
"Yes, Justin, everything's fine!" I laugh, "I was just here to chat with Telford."
"Eliza, I'm not stupid. What happened?" Justin's thick brows furrowed his eyes wide, taking in every move I make.
I wave my hand, "It's really not a big deal. Honestly."
Justin pushes some hair back behind my ear, "Eliza...I know you're trying to keep me in a good mood, but tell me what happened."
I look at Telford and Telford flips her computer screen around, "Some young girls started speculating at the store today when she went to go buy pants. Luckily the rumours are flying everywhere so no one believes anything."
Justin takes a deep breath, "Honestly, that's good news in my book today."
I grab his prominent chin and direct his face towards mine and give him a quick peck, "I wish I knew how to give you advice on 'how to get over your bill not passing', but they don't exactly teach you that nor is that a common occurrence." I laugh and kiss his cheek.
"You being here really makes it feel better." Justin kisses my forehead as he stands up and adjusts his shirt, "Telford, let's get the team together. We have get a back up plan going now." And just like that he's snapped back into "world leader" mode.
I gather my purse and quickly scoot out of there before the discussions get heavy.

"You know, I'm excited for the day I don't feel like we're sneaking around," I say, my face pressed against his bare firm chest. The "whip-crack" of his heartbeat echoing in my ear. My right hand curled up next to his neck.
"I know, give it time." Justin plays with a strand of my hair. I fee his chin rest against my head.
