Makai's pov
Darkness. On the planet of Kamino, I try and fail to spot Nate, the black of night and the pouring rain not allowing me to see more than a foot in front of me. I turn back around to the two brightly lit double doors, tempted to go back inside where it is dry and warm, but the thought of Nate not knowing where I am which would cause him to worry about me is enough to keep me out here in this horrible weather.
"Nate? Are you here, Nate?" I ask in a raised whisper as I turn away from the doors, back to looking out into the darkness.
"Hi," I hear Nate whisper in my ear, him startling me causing me to turn around and punch him in the stomach.
When he doubles over in pain, I quickly put a gentle hand on his back, feeling bad for causing him pain.
"I am so sorry, Nate," I whisper as he continues to try and catch his breath.
"It... is....... fine," he says between heavy breaths as he stands up straight once again, giving me a forced smile afterwards.
"It's not fine! I just punched you in the stomach," I say in a slightly raised voice as he continues to breathe heavily, feeling frustrated with myself for hurting him.
He pulls me into a hug while whispering in my ear, "One of these days, those reflexes of yours will save your life. It's nice to know that even when I am not around you can take care of yourself."
"But I can't take care of myself. I can't survive without you," I whisper into his chest, knowing that it is true. I don't know what I would do without Nate.
He doesn't say anything in response, just continues to hug me.
A few minutes later, he pulls back from the hug suddenly.
When I look up at him confused, in a worried tone, he says, "We aren't alone anymore."
"What do you mean?" I ask him, fear instantly filling every inch of me. Nate is never worried about anything. Ever. Him being worried is extremely bad.
"No matter what, if I tell you to do something, I need you to do it," he says as he looks me in the eyes, fear clear on his face.
I just nod my head yes, feeling nothing but fear. So much fear.
"Follow me," he whispers as he starts walking away from the clone laboratory, instead towards the dark shadows where we will hopefully be able to hide from whoever is here.
We keep walking to the edge until Nate puts his hand out in front of me, barely stopping me from tumbling into the water far below us.
"Thanks," I mutter as heat rushes to my cheeks, embarrassed that I almost walked off the edge.
"Anything for you," he whispers as he grabs my hand then sits down, forcing me to do the same.
"I know that you don't want to, but if we lay down they might not see us," Nate says, the thought of laying on the cold, wet ground is repulsing to me, but I know that he is right.
