Ghost Readers On Wattpad

Ghost Readers- If you're a Writer, you know who I'm talking about. 

Ghost Readers are pretty much the definition of frustrating. If you're a new writer and want to get feedback on your new story, Ghost Readers are your number one nemesis. 

Basically, Ghost Reader's either read your story and leave without a trace- or they read the first paragraph and leave. Hence, leaving your story with tons of reads, but no comments or votes. Also, leaving you in a constant state of confusion.

Ghost Readers, however, sometimes have a reason for doing so. I know that before you get your email verified, you can't vote or comment a single bloody thing. But you never really know if those mystery 500,000 people are those who don't have the option to comment or vote, or just hate your story and don't care. 

Of course, I also know that (and I've done this myself) some people just aren't huge voters. I know as soon as I joined Wattpad, I never voted or commented because I had this deep internet fear that if I voted the writer would track me down and kidnap me or something. I don't quite remember. 

Don't judge me, I was twelve. 

There are a lot of reasons Ghost Reader's don't comment or vote on your story. Some of them may have no choice, other's may forget, and I'm sure some don't care at all. 

But the reason this is a struggle is because writers on Wattpad crave votes and feedback. They want to know if their story is enjoyable. Wattpad isn't Barnes & Nobles- writer's don't always know if their book is good. If they don't get feedback, they may just give up. 

So, if you ever catch yourself not voting on a story you particularly like, especially one with hardly any attention, make sure to vote real quick. Writing is hard. It takes patience and not all people are confident with their writing. Next time you happen to stumble upon a book written by a potential author, maybe even leave an encouraging comment.
