Dean saw something shift in the corner of his eye, he turned to see Cas awakening. His raven black hair gleamed in the morning sun. Cas slowly sat up stretching his arms out and yawning. He said something that looked like hello Dean. Dean smiled to himself remembering Cas's deep voice.

He stood up and walked over to Dean and sat next to him in a chair. He signed something, it took Dean a minute to process but he finally understood it as a how are you? He nodded and signed good. Cas nodded and turned to look out the window, Dean couldn't help but stare. His hair was lighter in some places, the sun shining on it, his eyes were an even brighter blue than normal and his features were enhanced by the warmth of the sun.

Dean shook his head taking him back into reality. No normal person just stares at their best friend like that!  He thought. Dean awkwardly began to play with the edge of his blanket. Cas looked over at him and smiled, Dean smiled back.

The next week went by pretty normally. Cas would wake up every morning to find Dean already awake. Sometimes he would wake up to Dean having a nightmare, or him staring out the window. The doctors and nurses would come in regularly to check on him. The burn or his face was staring to look slightly better. They were all getting better at sign language as well.

Today they were signing Dean out of the hospital. Sam was at the desk filling out papers, while Dean was sitting in his wheelchair all dressed and ready to go, the nurse was standing behind him. Dean had this grumpy look an his face, he was still angry about being in a wheelchair.

Cas was holding a bag full of a bunch of pills, painkillers, burn ointment, along with other meds. Sam walked over to them and smiled.
"Let's go home." he said, Cas nodded. They managed to get Dean in the car with minimal struggle or pain. Dean was now sitting in the back seat, Cas next to him and Sam driving. His wheelchair and crutches along with their clothes were in the trunk.

The whole way home Dean just sat quietly in the seat looking out the window. He seemed agitated, his fingers kept tapping against his uninjured knee. Cas reached his hand out to stop the movement. Dean jumped at first but smiled seeing Cas.
He then returned to looking out the window. Cas couldn't see the burned side of his face, he looked almost normal.

"Hey Cas?" Sam asked more so than stated.
"Yes." Cas replied, tearing his gaze away from Dean to look at the back of Sam's head.
"Um" he began. "You do know that Dean won't be able to hunt right?"
"Yes I'm well aware. I fear he won't be to happy about that." Sam scoffed.
"He'll be pissed. Be uh, I still need to hunt, there's still things out there."
"Sam where are you going with this?" Cas asked tilting his head.
"I guess I'm asking will you watch over my brother while I'm gone? At least while he's still injured." he said, glancing at Cas in the mirror.
"Of course Sam." he visibly relaxed. The car filled with silence. Cas looked back over to Dean who was still looking out the window, and frowned.

Once they reached the bunker they wheeled Dean into the war room. Then Sam went off to figure out how they would get Dean into his room, which was on the second floor.
Cas turned to Dean who was busy taping his fingers in the table. Cas walked over to him and signed if was hungry. Dean just shook his head.

This scared Cas. Dean was always hungry! But he decided not to push the subject. Sam came back downstairs and announced that he was going to the lumber store to get some wood, for a ramp. After he left the two men just sat in the war room awkwardly.

Once Sam came back he and Cas went to go cover the stairs with the wood on the staircase closest to Dean's room.

Dean just sat in the giant war room, left with only his thoughts. He tried to ignore them by tapping his fingers on the table but they eventually caught up to him. They were full of self loathing. After what seemed like ages Sam finally came down and wheeled Dean to his room.

A a month had passed now. Sam had gone on a total of three hunts. Dean and Cas would sit at the bunker and do research. Dean had given up verbally talking after the huge argument about Sam going on hunts without him.  Dean was now on crutches although occasionally he would use the wheelchair if his back was seriously messing with him.

For the most part things went smoothly, Dean and himself would research, for cases and for Metatron who had Cas's grace, sometimes they would play cards or watch tv. On those nights they would relax and watch tv sitting on the couch. Cas would look over at Dean and would want to scoot closer but never did. Dean would sometimes get super upset because he couldn't hear the tv but he eventually got used to it.

Tonight they were sitting watching one of the Star Wars films, he couldn't remember which. He looked over at Dean and realized he was falling asleep, he was about to make him go get up and go to bed when suddenly, the hunter adjusted himself for that way his head was laying on Cas's lap. Cas went stiff before he finally relaxed. He looked down at the sleeping man as he played with the tips of his hair. His chest rising and falling as he slept away.

The door kept open, Cas peered around his shoulder to see Sam enter the room.
"Hey Cas where's Dean?" he asked walking over to the couch he looked over to see Dean laying on Cas's lap.  He smiled to himself.
"What?" Cas asked tilting his head in confusion.
"Nothing." Sam said shaking his head smirking. "Night Cas." he said waving,  walking out of the room. "Night Sam." Cas looked down at Dean and smiled to himself. "Night Dean." he said brushing the hair out of his face and turning of the tv as he drifted of to sleep.

Dean woke up, he actually had a good night's sleep last night. He felt something on his arm he rolled over and looked up to see he was laying in Cas's lap. He bolted up into a sitting position which stirred Cas awake. He couldn't help but think he was cute as he sat up, awake. He's not cute. He thought to himself. Cas's eyes opened up as he sat up he looked over at Dean. His mouth muttered something before he realized he should sign it, good morning Dean. Dean nodded blushing, maybe he didn't remember, him falling asleep in his lap.

Cas and Sam went to the local grocery store while Dean stayed at the bunker on a food run. Once they got back it had started raining so Sam dropped Cas off at the door with the food as he went off to go park the garage.

When he walked in he could hear loud music coming from Dean's room and the clattering of objects and screaming. He dropped the bags of food he ran up to Dean's room, the noise growing louder, as he pushed the door open he saw Dean slumped up against the wall he's knees pulled to his chest his arms hiding his face. Cas turned off the blaring music and stepped over the broken chair lying on the floor as he approached him. He knelt down and placed his hand on Dean's arm. Dean looked up, tears still streaming down his face. His face suddenly contorted to anger.

Dean stood up ignoring the pain. He started yelling, his voice hoarse.
"I CAN'T HEAR CAS I CAN'T HEAR A DAMN THING!" he screamed. He took a step closer towards Cas, and Cas took a step back. " I CAN'T HEAR MY MUSIC! I CAN'T HERE MY CAR!  I CAN'T HERE THE TV, THE MICROWAVE, THE WATER FROM THE SINK! I CAN'T HEAR YOU OR SAM'S VOICE, LET ALONE MY OWN VOICE!" he screamed stepping closer to Cas, Cas was in a corner, no where to go. "I CAN'T EVEN HUNT! I'M USELESS!  WHAT GOOD IS A DAMN HUNTER THAT'S CAN'T EVEN HUNT?!" he grabbed onto Cas's shirt. "I can't hear." he whispered, tears filling his eyes. "I can't hear." he said pressing his forehead to Cas's shirt letting the tears fall. Cas tried to comfort him by running his hands up and down his back.

Sam walked in hearing all the commotion, he walked in a look of horror on his face, as he took in the scene. Their eyes meet, as the both looked down at Dean who was still clinging onto Cas.
"I can't hear."
