They only stopped for food, gas and restroom breaks. They took turns sleeping and driving, Dean drove a few times on the back roads were there was less traffic. Sam was now sleeping in the back, Dean behind the wheel, Cas at his side, and the night sky above them. They were a little ways off from the library. Dean kept his eyes glued to the road, giving it his full attention. At a stop he would look at Cas and give him a small smile. He'd like to hold his hand but he had to worry about shifting, that was another offsetting thing, hr could no longer just hear when to shift the gears he had to feel for it and watch how fast he was going, which granted is how he first started driving baby but it was just a longer and more carful process.
Turning a corner and nearing the top of a hill he could see the library they had been driving two days straight to reach. He couldn't help but let a little nervous smile split across his face. He sparred one small glance at Cas and saw his emotions mirrored on the others face. Cas leaned back and woke up Sam, shaking him awake. They parked a block away from the library, not to far away but far enough away to be too conspicuous. He clambered out of the car heading to the back to open up the trunk. He began handing out weapons, his mind flashing back to his last hunt. Shaking his head he handed Cas his angel blade, offering up a small smile. He gingerly took it from his hands before sharing a look with same, both turning to face Dean.
'You'll be fine. ' Sam reassured.
'Never said I wouldn't be. ' he replied walking off towards the building pushing away the nerves as he marched. Standing in front of the grand doors to the older library was the tiniest bit nerve wrecking, more so than Dean would have cared to admit. Grudgingly he let Sam go in first. Cas followed in behind Dean. Once they had checked that the entrance was all clear they pulled out there necklaces filled with the potion. Taking a deep breathe he began to recite the words, grasping onto the vile.
"Find my lost power and let me reunite, light the way back to me. "He watched as a yellow glow danced out around them circling his boyfriend a few times before floating down in between the shelves. They quickly followed the yellow light, not wanting to loose sight of it. The light weaved in and out between the shelves, sometimes it would randomly stop as if trying to decide were to go, occasionally it would do a quick u-turn and race in the opposite direction. Finally on the third floor of the library the bright light stopped in front of a thick book, it slowly dimmed dissolving into the book before completely disappearing.
They stood, staring at the book, not daring to move. Cas carefully stepped forward and reached out for the book, his fingertips brushing the spine. An uneasy feeling swept over Dean, before he had time to react he was flung up against the wall.
He looked up and saw Metatron smirking at him, four other angels standing behind him. Dean groggily stood up, grading his angel blade, looking around he realized Cas and Sam were doing the same. Metatron doubled over in laughter as the book came zooming into his hands. He turned to face Dean as he said something. Confused he backed up further into the wall, preparing for an attack. He looked over at Sam who was shouting and signing soothing to Dean while Cas was fighting off two of the angels that were attacking them.
Two more angels jumped onto him from the floor above. He fell back down to the floor, struggling to get them off his back. Finally shaking them off he rolled over, grabbing his blade stabbing up in time just as they charged. He quickly man urged around the one, turning and stabbing the other one straight through the heart. The female angel screeched as she launched herself onto Dean, digging her nails into his arm, pushing him closer to the railing. He desperately tired to fight her off, he managed to get a firm grasp onto his angel blade before thrusting it into her stomach. A moment of triumph washed over him, quickly being replaced with pain, he looked down and noticed a sliver blade protruding from his stomach. She let a small grin cross her lips as the both tumbled over the railing, three stories down.
"NOOOO!" Cas screamed, still fighting off the last angel, Sam ran towards the railing, but there was nothing he could do, besides stare. Metatron was laughing watching the scene unfold.
"The villains will always fall. " he said smiling. Cas let out a loud scream as he pushed the angel to the floor stabbing him through the chest. He saw Sam race down the steps trying to reach his brother. He glared at Metatron, stepping over the lifeless bodies of his fallen siblings as he marched towards the shorter man. Metatron seemed a bit surprised as Cas pinned him up against the wall. He shoved him up against it hard enough to hear a loud thud sound. Dropping him to the floor he reached for the book that contained his grace and ripped it open, grabbing the vile and twisting it open.
The blue light immersed into him csusing a large glowing ring to emit around the man. Cas could feel his wings begin to grow from his back again, he slowly stretched them out his eyes glowing a magnificent blue as he glared down at Metatron. His grace, he could feel it coursing through his veins. He rushed over to Metatron, gripping his face he slowly began to extract the shorter angels grace, capturing it in the vile. He slumped against the floor.
Staring down at him he quickly summoned for ropes to wrap around the now human, before flying towards Dean and Sam. He dropped to his knees once he saw the scene before him. Dean was a crumpled up bloody mess, the female angel laid scorched into the ground not to far away from him. Sam kneeled in a pool of blood cradling his brother in his arms. Cas rushed over towards Dean, dropping to his knees. He looked over at Sam who was a sobbing mess.
"H-he's n-not bre-breathing." he whispered, looking at Cas with a look of defeat and utter hopelessness. Cas gulped as he looked down at the lifeless body of his lover.
"Give him to me. " he demanded.
"Cas there is nothing you can do-" Sam tried to reason.
"Please, Sam please hand him to me." he begged. Sam nodded looking at him solemnly. Cas gingerly took his body in his arms as he stared down at him, his brilliant green eyes staring vacantly up at the sky, blood splatters replacing the soft dusting of freckles. He was still warm. Instead of sadness anger swept over him. Metatron couldn't do this, he wouldn't let him win. He felt his grace swell up, manifesting into something lager than it ever had before. He willed it into the broken hunters body, swirling in and searching for something, something oh so important, his soul. And there it was, a tiny fragment sitting in the deepest most desolate corner it could find, grasping onto life, trying to hide from death.
His grace reached out towards the tattered soul, offering it a comforting place, they began to intertwine, the silvers and whites of the soul, mixing with the blue, a soft gold emerged in the center of the two as he repaired his soul. Something different was happening than the last time Cas had repaired Dean's soul, The gold string still tied the two sources together. No matter how much Cas would stitch back together the string stayed attached. The soul after carful handcrafting was back to its original state, this time brighter than ever with the tiny gold strand attaching his grace to Dean's soul. he slowly began to pull out, knowing if he went to fast he could create a rapture in the newly rebuilt soul, which could lead to insanity, something he did not want to happen. Once he was finally able to pull away from Dean he felt a sharp tug as he collapsed next to his lover.

Sam watched amazed as Cas's eyes began to glow a bright blue, soon both bodies were glowing so bright, he had to cover his eyes. He had no idea what was happening, but by each passing minute the light grew brighter and brighter. Suddenly there was a huge gust of wind, before the light vanished completely. Sam dared to open his eyes to see both figures collapsed on the ground. "Shit, shit, shit, shit" he muttered, racing over to his brother and friend. He quickly checked Cas's pulse. "Thank god." he sighed, relaxing a little. He glanced over at Dean, taking a deep breathe, trying to not get his hopes up, he placed his fingers on his neck to check. He was breathing, he looked over at Cas with amazement, they were alive. Both of them.
He quickly ran out of the building and raced to the impala. He hurriedly parked the car as he brought out the two unconscious bodies. He carefully laid Dean down on the back seat, before sliding Cas in next to him. He walked back in and not so carefully put Metatron in the trunk. Slamming it shut he began to drive off down the road, hoping to find an abandoned house they could possibly stay at for the night. He still couldn't believe they were all alive.
