My Room
As I was getting ready to leave my room in my evening dress, I caught a glimpse of my reflection in the mirror, causing me to pause and stand in front of it.
Unexpectedly, I found myself rolling my eyes at the dissatisfaction I felt with my appearance. It was hard not to blame myself for how I'd become.
"S-storm," my sister's voice stuttered as she opened my bedroom door.
"Why are you here?" I asked casually.
"Y-you didn't lock y-your door, so I e-entered b-because I w-wanted to c-check on you," she explained nervously.
"What happened to your tongue?" I questioned with a slight smirk. "Cat got your tongue?"
"Did I... Did I change you into a cold person?" She asked, her voice tinged with guilt or maybe pity. I wasn't quite sure, nor did I care to find out.
"What do you think?" I responded with a challenging tone.
"I'm sorry," she apologized quickly, her gaze averting.
"Look at me, Courtney," I instructed, almost demanding. She hesitantly met my gaze, her demeanor nervous.
"Listen, you're not the reason I turned out this way. It's my own doing. Remember that and don't blame yourself. You had nothing to do with it." I intended to say that, but the words never made it past my lips. Instead, I offered her a small smile before walking out of my room.
"You didn't, I'm still your sister," I conveyed to her.
Garden
Impatiently waiting in the garden for my grandparents' arrival, I watched as the maids went about their tasks. My aunt took a seat beside me.
"Baby, I promised you wouldn't be handling the company for a year, right?" She reminded me.
"But unfortunately, Papa already informed the board," she continued.
"However, since I made that promise, I won't break it. I talked with Papa, and as of now, you'll just be overseeing the Storms and Courtney," she smiled, referring to the beach resorts named after me and the hotel and restaurants named after my sister.
"Thank you," I expressed my gratitude.
"You're welcome, stubborn woman."
"Storm, apo, how are you?" Lola Storm greeted me as soon as she spotted me.
"I'm fine," I assured her, rising to my feet and walking over to her.
"Good evening, Lola," I greeted her, offering a kiss on her right cheek.
"You've changed," she observed with a smile, taking her seat in the chair prepared for her.
"Apo, you're really quite beautiful," Lolo Chris commented. I gave him a slight smile before kissing his right cheek.
"You've grown into a mature woman, Storm," he stated, his tone serious. "But I can't help but notice that you're turning into the female version of your father, not just in looks, but in attitude too."
"Look who's talking," Lola muttered.
"What?" Lolo innocently inquired.
"You're the one to blame. Moreover, she's a Lyn. What did you expect? She's from your bloodline. It's no surprise she's become like this," Lola Storm interjected, rolling her eyes at Lolo.
Mother rolls her eyes often. Aunt too. My sister as well. Now, even Lola Storm is joining in.
"What are you trying to say, huh? Hon?" Lolo Chris retorted.
"You were like that too back then, you know. That's why Liam grew up expressionless and couldn't smile until his wife came along," Lola said, her gaze fixed on my father.
"What? It's not my fault. Look at Luna and Leana. They act and talk like brats, but their father isn't like that."
"Courtney? You see, she acts and talks like a brat too, but not like her mother. She's like you, which is why she's your granddaughter," Lolo Chris mocked Lola.
"What are you implying? That Storm takes after you, and Courtney takes after me?" Lola raised an eyebrow at him.
"Let's just say Storm got her attitude from me and her father. On the other hand, Courtney got yours and her mother's attitude," Lolo smirked.
"That's the same thing! You just want to claim that your granddaughter takes after you."
"Lolo! Lola!" My sister's voice saved the moment.
I'll remember to thank her later for her timely interruption.
"Mom is on her way," my sister informed us.
"Where's Keith?" Lolo asked.
"I'm not sure. Where's Grandpa, Storm?" My sister inquired.
"He's in his office," I answered.
"Good evening, everyone! Chris, Storm, I'm glad you could visit," the older man greeted as he entered.
"Keith, how have you been?" Lolo asked Grandpa.
"I'm doing well."
"Luna, make it quick. Storm and Courtney are clearly hungry," Grandpa instructed my mother.
"Chris, lead us in prayer," Lola Storm directed her husband.
