"Apo, what's going on?" I heard a familiar voice exclaim just a few feet from my ear.

I was still groggy so I buried my face in my pillow, attempting to slip back into slumber.

About five minutes passed before I was disturbed again. "Luke, tell me the truth. What happened between you and my granddaughter?" The same voice, tinged with a hint of warning, reached my ears.

Confused and disoriented, I forced my eyes open to find Lola Storm, Lolo Chris, and Emerald standing before me.

"Why are you all here?" I managed to croak, my voice hoarse from sleep.

"Storm," was all Lolo Chris muttered before leaving the room.

Amidst the whirlwind of thoughts, Lola Storm and Emerald chimed in unison, "We both love you!"

Wait, both? It hit me suddenly when they closed the door on their way out

"Pumpkin" Reign groaned as he tumbled onto the floor.

And, in a moment of news-worthy idiocy, I had just pushed him. Hard.

"What was that for? Lately, you've been hugging me incessantly," he hissed, though a smirk soon played at the corner of his lips.

Ugh, those abs and veins. My thoughts were all jumbled, my reactions a mix of uncertainty and attraction.

I really want to touch him

"You know what they must be thinking, right? Especially with me shirtless and you in that off-shoulder dress beneath the blanket," he teased.

Annoyance surged within me. What was I supposed to say to that?

Just a dismissive sound escaped my lips, earning a raised eyebrow from him. But seriously, how was I supposed to react to all this?

"Just a 'tch'? They could be plotting our wedding by now, Pumpkin," he said annoyed

"So what?" I retorted, challenging him. "I'm not exactly a fan of arranged marriages."

With that, he left, and the sense of relief was tainted by the nagging feeling that he was merely concerned about maintaining his freedom to indulge in his casual relationships.

Not fan my ass, if I know, he doesn't want to get married to me because if he's already tied in a knot, he can't bang his girls anymore

Dining Room

"Where's Luke?" Lola Storm's voice inquired.

"Probably off with one of his flings," I answered, my irritation showing.

I began to eat, but their gazes bore into me relentlessly.

"What?" I questioned, unable to keep from sounding defensive.

"Is something bothering you, Apo?" Lola Storm inquired.

"You seem upset and agitated," Emerald added, her concern evident.

"Luke Reign happened," I spat out.

Exasperated, I pushed my plate aside and muttered, "I'm done. I'm sorry, have a good night po"

Garden

What is wrong with me? I'm annoyed

Then my phone rang – Kaden's call.

"How's my baby?" he asked

"Still kicking. You at a club?" I inquired, scrutinizing the scene behind him.

"I'm with Tyler," he responded, and the mention of Tyler made me bite my lip, my irritation obvious.

"Why'd you call?" I questioned, my annoyance bleeding into my words.

"Because I miss my baby," he confessed.

The truth was, I missed him too. No point in pretending otherwise.

"I miss you too," I admitted.

"I love you, baby."

"Love you"

"I gotta go! I love you!" he bid his farewell

When the call ended, I was startled by the voice that intruded on my thoughts.

"Why are you here? You should be eating," Luke Reign's voice pierced through the moment.

He had a way of appearing out of thin air, much like a mushroom – a bizarre comparison, I knew.

"What's it to you?" I shot back, my irritation mounting.

He clicked his tongue in annoyance.

He really knew how to get under my skin.

"GOOD MORNING," Emerald's cheerful voice greeted me the next day.

She approached, enveloping me in one of her trademark motherly hugs. I responded with a kiss on her cheek before settling onto the couch.

She's watching Fifty Shades. Seriously?

Reign's voice cut through the scene. "What are you two watching?"

"Good morning" Emerald responded, her tone warm but her eyes never leaving the screen.

"Fifty Shades Freed, really?" Reign's voice dripped with amusement.

Seating himself beside me, he stretched out and used my lap as a makeshift pillow.

Playing with his hair, I sighed

I raised my left eyebrow when he landed his eyes on me

"What?" I exclaimed, my curiosity piqued.

"What's with the heavy sigh?"

"What's it to you?" I retorted, rolling my eyes at him. He had likely heard that response from me countless times before.

He seemed on the brink of saying something, but then opted for silence instead. Good, because his voice was the last thing I wanted to hear.

As the movie concluded, the sound of pouring rain filled the room.

"It's raining," I murmured to myself.

A longing to be drenched surged within me.

I yearned to stand beneath the rain, embracing each drop until I was completely satiated.

"Come on," he urged, seizing my hand as we dashed outside.

"Careful!" we heard Emerald from behind

I leaped and twirled, fully immersed in the rain's embrace.

"You love dancing under the rain huh?" I heard him remark as he removed his shirt, preparing to dive into the pool.

"Join me!" he called out enthusiastically, and so, in response, I wholeheartedly did.
