I watched Jeremy lean against a wall for almost an hour until I decided to talk to him.

"What do you want?" He muttered without looking up.

"I want you to tell me what you meant by 'I was trying to help'."

"You've got a nerve" he laughed with disapproval.

"Yeah, I do. Now spill"

He looked at me surprised and smiled, not with any hints if cruelty or hatred, but only kindness, making the first eye contact we've had in ages. Maybe I was too quick to judge.
He hesitated for a few moments.

"I meant you always said how much you hated that place" he began

"Estragination camp?"

"Yeah that thing. And I saw how rude that guy was when he went to my house, I wanted to see if you were ok but he was threatening."

"Alex?" I nodded, this was all true, not even with a slight exaggeration.

"Yeah him. He mentioned that an Ethan guy was going to kill you. I thought I was helping, and I got Sylvia back for beating one of my friends up too. Don't tell anyone, I don't want to get locked up in prison for the rest of my life"

"That's so messed up. It's no reason to kill her. And what was the last thing you were going l do?"

"Shut the place down" he mumbled

"What?! You think you're helping me? I'll have nowhere else to go. It's not all that bad. I mean you get food, quite gross but still."

"Sorry I just-"

I cut him off and roll my eyes.

"Hey why do you want to fight me so bad?" He blinks but he returns with a hard punch. I hold my hand to my bruised face and blood stains spread on my clothes.
I quickly punch him back and we both fall onto the floor.

"Yours better be hurting more than mine,"I state.

"And that would make you feel better?" He smiles.

"A bit yeah," I couldn't resist a smile, he has a reason for everything, he was trying to help me.

"I know that smile and no, I just don't do hugs." He shot a sarcastic look.

"Sure. What makes you think I want to hug you?" Then I breathed a sign of relief as I jogged away with the weight lifted off my shoulders.
Jeremy was my friend again, and no more theories on shadows.

Now I had to face Ethan, Alex and Lydia. Breathe and walk.
