28 VA Fanfic TNB Sequel_Chapter Twenty-Eight
Chapter 28My feet crushed the grass unmercifully as I ran, my RGs following steadily behind me even though I know they could easily outrun me. Well, except for Chad. He was taking the lead, running ahead just in case something happened. What may happen, I don't know. After all, we are within school grounds.
Guess the incident of Strigoi getting in twenty years ago was stuck in his mind. My parents will be proud that he was taking notes when they told the story. I smirked internally at the thought.
Drifting away, I forced myself to focus on the reason I was running. I wanted to get out of my room to clear my head and think through this whole week's effort.
This whole week is... Boring.
As I've promised my parents, I tried to finish both books in a week. One thing I'm proud of is I've managed to do that in six days instead.
Yes. I've finished reading them.
But hadn't managed to understand everything written in there. I'm not the best at math, but if I were to calculate, I'll say I've only understood one tenth of both books.
The most infuriating thing was, instead of clearing my mind as I'd hope, reading them gave me more questions instead. My questions of why did I felt compelled to leave the academy, how to find the witches and how to get Strigoi to work magic with us- amongst other questions, were NOT answered.
In fact, I found a more pressing detail.
Selected pages of the books were empty. Blank. Nothing. The paragraphs were simply cut short when the next page appears to be empty.
The whole thing that gave me questions was why didn't I notice it when the books were given to me? I have been flipping about, here and there for so long, surely I wouldn't have missed not just one empty page, but several?
And why hadn't Guardian Croft and Dad said something about it? I distinctively remember them saying that they've read the book but hadn't managed to understand it fully.
On further inspection,I realised, the missing pages contains the key answers to my questions! The paragraphs that were cut short were the passages that had me excited about having my questions answered only to find the next page empty.
I'd cursed and forced myself to read on, ignoring the tugging feeling at my heart about the missing pages. It was only after I finished both books that these current questions really started popping out.
Maybe... Just maybe I should ask Dad. Nobody ever did tell me what it was in that book, they just keep telling me to read it. There must be a reason, surely.
Stopping abruptly in my tracks, I called out to Chad ahead.
"Chad! We're going back!" I hollered. He stopped, turned and nodded. Giving the open space another look around, he turned and jogged towards me. The others had stopped, surrounding me.
"Is something wrong?" Macon asked, alert. He glanced about him, causing the others to follow.
"Yes. Well, not really. Not in that there is danger sense." I said, seeing their tensed postures when I said my first word.
"Okay... So..." Chad trailed off, waiting.
"We turn back. I need to speak with my dad." I said.
No more words needed. They all knew how things are if I said I needed to speak with my dad in the middle of an 'activity'. Either serious or urgent. Or both.
My. Dad. Was. Nowhere. To. Be. Found.
We did met several Guardians on patrol who gave me a disapproving look when they caught the whole gang of us out when we are supposed to be sleeping. I merely shrugged and asked if they've seen my dad. No positive reply.
