When Guardian Alkaev left, Ryan released a loud breath, looking disturbed. My parents stayed, looking grim and stressed.

"Ry, are you okay? You look... Overwhelmed." I stated.

Ryan looked between my parents, Leo, Colt and Tim, unsure. He opened his mouth a few times, but close it each time he was going to speak.

"I- I just... Don't trust him." He said. "I get that he's the Head Guardian and all, but there's something about him that's really weird." He added, holding his hands up towards my parents, Colt, Leo and Tim as if they were going to start arguing with him.

Dad shook his head. "You're right. There is something going on." He said. His eyes swept past us as he continued speaking, "I don't want Dawn, at any point of time to be alone. Am I understood?"

Everyone agreed.

"Guardian Belikov, do you think that there may be a mistake?" Colt added in, slowly.

"What do you mean?"

"Guardian Alkaev is the Head Guardian, he wouldn't possibly try to hurt Dawn, will he?" Colt asked, somehow hesitant.

Dad was going to answer, when we all spotted the uncomfortable glances between Leo and Tim.

Our silence alerted them of our 'spying'. They quickly recovered and masked their expressions, as if nothing had happened.

Dad isn't pleased.

"If you know something that will protect Dawn, you need to tell us. The dangers out there are going to cost us lives. Including Dawn's." Dad warned.

I can tell that my dad is getting agitated, and I can't say that I am not surprised. I am. I rarely saw Dad losing his cool.

Leo finally spoke. "You are right. Guardian Alkaev... There is something about him. He longs for power. Everyone knew he wasn't happy when Guardian Croft- Head Guardian of the Court is extending his term of service when Rassvet Karalyeva is found." He said.

"He has been sending requests for transfer to Court. He wants to take-over from Guardian Croft when he retires." Tim added. Leo nodded in agreement.

"I have been a Guardian in St. Basil's for seven years. It has been like this since I joined the ranks." Leo started.

Between him and Tim, they told us everything. When they first entered as Guardians, they were warned by many others to not question Guardian Alkaev's authority. Slowly, they got to know Guardian Alkaev and his greed for power- and also started to understand the warning others had given.

However, towards the novices, he is the best example of a Head Guardian. Behind the scenes became a different story. It seems that it's as if the novices have some use for Guardian Alkaev, hence the still good 'reputation' stayed.

Mom frowned when they finished. "So what has that got to do with Dawn?" She asked.

"Hans was the most influential and power-holding Guardian, since he is the Head Guardian of Court. But now, the power lies on Dawn. Whatever power Hans have is secondary to Dawn's. Alkaev wants the power that Hans used to have, but now belongs to Dawn." Dad explained.

Tim and Leo nodded. My mind was having problems digesting all these information. Warnings both Dad and Uncle Eddie gave me whirled around in my mind, leaving the whole situation almost unreal. Almost. Weren't Dhampirs supposed to be protective of their own? If they could spent their entire lives guarding and protecting Moroi, why would they want to get rid of other dhampirs?
