"Would I want to know what happened?" My dad asked, eyes still on the badly scorched desk. Meanwhile, my mom had made her way into the room and was examining the desk in amusement.

"I know that these desks sucks, but you don't have to do this." Mom said. She looked up and winked, "Just use a baseball bat, no need to waste your magic."

"Rose."

"Come on, it's just a desk. I'm sure they have an explanation for this." Mom defended, while dad just stared at her. Before dad could say anything, I cut in.

"Daddy, it's not me. It's Chad." I said. Chad's eyes grew wide. "We were just trying to see if what the book said was true, but we sort of lose control..."

"What in the book was true?" Mom asked, then turning to Chad, she scrutinize him. Chad cringed slightly, but stood his ground.

"The ability to wield magic, Guardian Hathaway." Chad answered. Both my mom and dad's eyes widened.

The next three hours were spent out in the school grounds, where Chad once again, repeatedly, tries to wield his fire element. We walked around in the school, stopping at random places to test Chad's ability.

Dad had been proud of my deduction of the particular sentence that had brought Chad to notice his element. Though both Guardian Croft and him had actually finished reading the book, they hadn't picked up anything on that sentence. In fact, there were still things mentioned in the book that makes no sense to them.

By the time mom and dad were satisfied with watching Chad burning things up and I intervening to control when the fire goes out of hand, it was late afternoon. I was lacking sleep, and the magic I was using throughout the day isn't helping my exhaustion.

My shower consisted of me using bathing gel to wash not only my body, but my face and hair as well. No shampoo-ing nor conditioning for my hair. I didn't even bother brushing my teeth.

My eyes were half closed as I cross my room to dump myself onto the bed. I didn't even notice of my parents or even Chad is still around. Hair wet and unbrushed, I fell into a deep sleep.

I know something is wrong. Mom and Aunt Lissa were such good friends-sisters, even. How could mom just leave Aunt Lissa in Court and stay here in the academy? Granted, Aunt Lissa does have almost a couple of dozen guardians always around her, but the point remains that mom was away from Aunt Lissa.

The second thing is, nobody was telling me anything. Even Chad. He was wide awake the following morning, with the status of training Royal Guardian. Does that even exist before, I have no idea. We went around doing what we did the previous night once again, except this time, Guardian Croft and Guardian Petrov were with us.

By the time we were allowed to return to class, almost everyone in school had heard of the news. Now I know what was the topic of gossip this morning during breakfast.

Classes with the novices were filled with questions on how Chad had known that Ellie had turned Strigoi and how does it feel to stake one. I avoided these, tuning out of the conversation. Chad can deal with it on his own. Yes, Ellie may be annoying, but is it worth it to turn?

Right now, I am in my room, preparing to go to Court for the weekend. When all is done and my stuff are packed, I heaved the load over my shoulder and walked towards the door.

And paused.

"Dimitri, don't you think we should tell her?" Mom asked. I strained my ears and flattened them against the door, not wanting to miss anything.
