My parents stayed beside me for the rest of the journey. The touch down was smooth, and we soon found ourselves walking towards the arrival hall.

A dozen guardians stood, like some weird formal gang of hooligans waiting for their boss to arrive. Somehow, the cartoon hooligans pops into my mind, those with huge, buff bodies and small heads. Those that had heads turning towards their direction everytime they passed.

Aren't we supposed to blend in? This doesn't look much blending in to me. Humans passing gaped at them, though some teenage girls were giggling crazily. I can guess why.

A short chuckle brought me out of my reverie. Uncle Eddie was eyeing me in amusement.

"You do know that I saw whatever that was you were thinking of, right?" He asked, trying to keep in his laughter.

I groaned. "No! You weren't supposed to see that! Plus," I said, trying to defend myself, "I didn't think of that on purpose, the matching just came into my mind."

Thankfully, Uncle Eddie dropped the subject, shaking his head while still chuckling. We were approaching the guardians. Surprisingly though, they didn't move forward despite seeing us. They stood still, like they had when we first saw them and waited for us to get to them.

As usual, dad knew them. Well, not all of them, but most of them to have a short introduction. I resisted the urge to cringe when their eyes swept past me, stopping at my neckline, where the Jewel had burned into my skin.

Their eyes widened at the sight of the Jewel on my skin. I avoided their gazes, focusing on other things. Finally, we left the airport.

Between us and the dozen guardians, we fitted easily into three SUVs. Dad told us that the ride to the academy will take up to eight hours, where we will reach just in time before the school day starts. Since none of us will be driving, it will be a good time to catch up on sleep.

We were still travelling along the city roads with the sun high up in the sky when I slipped into unconsciousness. When I woke up, it was dark. Moonlight filtered past the canopy of the forest we are driving through, and with the headlights of the vehicle, giving us just enough light to see our way.

"Just about a couple of hours and we'll be reaching." Uncle Eddie said, seeing that I was awake. I nodded, turning out to look at the dark shadows of the forest we are passing.

Shuffling at the back caught my attention. Chad was fidgeting, opening and closing his bag, like he was searching for something. When he didn't find what he wanted, he took out his stake and sat straight, glancing out of the window expectantly. Uncle Eddie was staring at him curiously the whole time.

"Chad? What are you doing?" I asked. At my question, my parents turned around to look at him. They had raised eyebrows at the stake in his hand.

"I don't know. I feel that we are being shadowed. It's that same feeling I had previously." Chad replied.

Dad nodded, then turned back to the front and whispered something to the other two guardians up front. The one in the passenger seat took out a walkie-talkie and started murmuring into it.

The atmosphere turned tensed. Stakes were out, and all eyes were out on the forest.

Then I saw them.

Strangely, they didn't attack, but continued following us. After a while, they went out of sight; but straining my eyes and concentrating hard, I realized they were still following us, but doing their best to keep out of our sight. Why?
