i. defeat
every day, the surfer goes down to the beach
expecting nothing less than
sand, ocean water and a sun.
that was the day he never came back to shore
water in his lungs
eyes soulless
body lifeless and pale
all he was ever left with was a bitter taste
of betrayal.
ii. victorious
every stroke against the waves crash against him
he's out there in the vast unknown
but when he stands
he falls with teetering feet.
it's okay to lose sometimes
it's pushing back out there against the frigid waters that makes you victorious.
