I just felt like putting this up today, because I may forget tomorrow.
Enjoy!

I woke up to sunlight streaming through my window. I looked over to my brother's bed, noting he was still fast asleep. If only I could sleep in like the old days. I stared at the dust particles floating in the air. They could float and do whatever they liked, while I had to do work all the time. I finally got up and headed to the kitchen to fill out my Selection form.
It asked me my age and height, along with some other questions. I was 17 years old, 5'7'', and couldn't play a single instrument. I only knew one language, but I was pretty skilled in the art of math. At least my dad had given me that skill.
I went to my room to get dressed. I decided on a beige top and some navy shorts, the best I had. I was glad I at least had shorts, considering how hot it was now. I had some friends who only had pants. That would be awful.
I put my brown hair in a wraparound braided crown. The best I could do with what I had to work with. On good days my hair looked like it had a natural ombré, but today it just looked like mud.
Once I finished, I told my mom that I was heading to the Province Office, then walked out the door. On my way down, I saw the Keeper's car pass by. I thought I could see Ainsley in the back, but I wasn't sure. They wanted to get their letter in as quickly as possible, too. I was glad my family didn't have a car. Not many people have them these days, since they cost so much. Most of the time they don't work, either. I enjoyed walking and smelling the trees and floral scent that was always floating around.
It took me three hours, but I finally made it to the office. The lady at the desk took my application and told me to stand in line, so I could have my picture taken. I didn't realize photos were necessary.
I waited for what felt like days, until the camera man finally waved me over. He asked me some of the questions from the application again, making sure I hadn't lied about anything. Of course, I hadn't. What was there to lie about?
He finally took my picture and told me the results would be out in two weeks, on the next Report. Even though I really didn't want to do this, I was anxious for the Report. I wanted to see if I made the list.
I knew I was in for a long journey as my foot stepped onto the gravel path. It took me three hours to get here and that meant three hours to get back. I also had to get some food from the bakery, since we didn't have much food at home. I began the journey home.

My mouth watered as I stepped into the bakery. I always enjoyed the smell of fresh baked bread.
"Hey, Grey!"
I heard Walter yell. He was the baker's son and was my only real friend. I usually stopped by whenever I had the chance. Probably because their prices were so cheap.
"Oh, hi." I replied
"Anything new? Did you get the letter yet?"
"Actually, I just got back from dropping that off at the office. It was a good three hour walk."
"I bet," He started. "A long walk for something you don't want, but need."
