Chapter Six

I woke up to gentle arms shaking me awake. I finally opened my sleepy eyes to find myself staring into the blue eyes of a girl around my age, maybe a little older.

"Wake up, Miss. It's time to get you ready for breakfast." She said, helping me out of bed.

I had slept soundly last night. No dreams or even the occasional sound. Completely perfect.

I watched as the girl went back into the closet and pulled out a beautiful dress. It fell to the knees and was an astonishing sea foam green color. She also pulled out some gold flats that went with the dress perfectly.

"It's beautiful." I breathed.

"I'm glad you like it." Piped a girl in the back with red hair. "We wanted it to look nice with your new makeover."

"That's right," I said, remembering. "The makeovers are this morning. Does that mean you'll be doing my makeup or do I wait?"

"You'll get it done later, Miss."

"Alright, thank you. And your names are?"

"I'm Lucille." She was the one who woke me up this morning. She then motioned to the red head to go.

"I'm Kendra, and this," She said pointing to the blonde in the corner. "Is Blaire."

"Hello, Lady Grey."

I quickly slipped the dress on and looked over at the clock. If I didn't leave soon, I would be late for breakfast.

"Hi. It was great meeting you all, but I don't want to be late. I have to get to breakfast. Thank you, again, for helping me get ready this morning." I smiled.

Breakfast was uneventful. No one said a word, but everyone received death glares from one another. I was sitting near Leni, to who I was speaking with my eyes, asking, what is wrong with everyone?

We decided to walk to the makeover station together, just to get to know each other even better. I learned that she enjoys swimming and fishing, as well as walks along the beach. She had a younger brother as well, along with a twin sister. We actually had more in common than I thought.

I was directed to Station Nine to begin my makeover.

"What do you want done, Miss?" A short, brunette asked nicely.

"Whatever you think looks best. I honestly don't know what I would do to myself, so do what you'd like." I replied, unsure of myself.

"Alright, let's get started." She began, pulling open drawers and grabbing items that looked like torture devices.

"All done. You can look into the mirror for the final product. You look great by the way." Sierra, that was the brunette's name, finished.

I looked in the mirror and gasped. There was so much makeup piled onto my face. My eyes looked smoky and my lips too red. You could see the color difference of my face to my neck. It didn't look good at all.

As much as I hated it, I didn't want to tell the maids to change it. That would probably sound too rude. Maybe they thought I looked better this way.

"Lady Grey. Come here, please." A lady called.

I walked over, studying the woman as I did so. She had light brown hair with strips of a lighter color through it. I guess working at the palace isn't as easy as it sounds. She was wearing a navy blue jacket with matching pants along with some white heels.

"Yes, Miss?" I asked sheepishly.

"No need to be afraid, dear." She laughed. "I just need to do a short interview about you. That sound okay?"

"Alright, let's get started then."

"Just sit right over there, on that blue stool. We'll get your picture after. Oh, I forgot to tell you my name." She sighed. "I'm June."

"Oh, I'm Grey." I replied.

"Yes, I know, but thank you anyway." She said with an amused expression.

I could feel my face heat up as I sat on the stool, waiting for the questions to come. I saw someone turn the lights on and gesture to the camera man. I guess we were on.

"What is your name and caste?" A computerized male voice asked.

"I'm Grey Harrick, a Seven."

"Do you have any hobbies?"

"Not really, unless you count gardening."

I heard the camera switch off and the lights dimmed. I assumed my interview was over. It was rather short, but I guess they have to get through a lot of us. If we all said much more, it would be a very long Report.

June led me over to a peach colored couch and told me to sit until my name was called. I saw Quinn wandering around and waved her over.

"Oh. My. Goodness. Grey, you look like a totally different person."

"I know," I complained. "They put way to much on or something. I don't know anything about makeup."

"Can't you just tell them to fix it? One of them messed up my eyebrow, so I politely asked her if she could redo it. She did it without thinking anything of it."

"I just didn't want to be rude. All my life I've been treated poorly, so I didn't want to treat them poorly as well."

"Oh, Grey." She sighed. "What did you even tell them to do, though?"

"Whatever they thought would look best on me. Like I said before, I know basically nothing about makeup. We could never afford it."

"That makes sense, but I'm starting to think they all had different ideas. This eyeshadow doesn't work with the lip color, at all. They probably had fun with this."

"I'll just make sure my maids put it on light in the mornings from now on. I don't want this to happen again." I laughed.

"Definitely not." Quinn laughed as well.

"Although I must say," I started. "You look great."

It was true. She had on a dazzling navy blue day dress. The top was adorned with light blue gems and crystals, the skirt hitting right above the knee. Not to mention her makeup. It was done perfectly. Her skin looked flawless and her blue eyes popped with the shadow around them.

"Aww, thanks Grey. I always knew you'd be a good friend." She said, smiling.

"Anytime." I replied looking straight ahead.

"Lady Quinn." A distant voice yelled.

"Oh! That's me. I better get going. Don't want them to be angry with me." She hurried off toward the voice.

A few moments later, I heard someone call my name. I followed the voice to a photography station. I would get my picture taken in front of a pale blue backdrop.

"Just look forward and smile." The photographer said, following his own rules and smiling.

I smiled at the camera as he took the picture. I saw more than one flash and realized they took three pictures of me. One from the front, one from the left and right sides. Maybe they needed a profile picture. Isn't that what they do for prisoners?

"Good job. We're done here. Go over to the yellow carpet to begin your tour. Good luck, Lady Grey."

I stepped over to the yellow carpet, meeting up with Quinn along the way. We chatted, waiting for the other girls to arrive. A few moments later, we heard a very large boom and all the girls went silent.

What was that?
