When Theodore calls Isla after midnight it's usually because his anxiety has skyrocketed and needs someone to hold him until he sleeps, midnight talks or because of a murder.

She always hated the nights when it was because of the third reason.

Isla liked to believe herself to be a decent person, nice and genuine to all around her. But helping an insomniac Theodore solve a murder case in ungodly hours of the night was definitely not something she looked forward to at all. She desperately needed as much sleep as she could considering that in two weeks school will start again and that translated to zero sleep, abusing the family coffee maker and stressing over college applications on a daily basis.

And now as Isla pedalled on her bicycle all the way to Theo's house, she asked herself the question she always wondered, why had she befriended this mess of a person a month ago and accepted hanging out with him?

Because he likes Harry Potter and has an amazing collection of all the seasons of Game Of Thrones. And he also makes you feel more alive than anyone ever did before. He also looks like the adorable quirky version of Apollo which doesn't hurt to look at either.

Was it normal to have such thoughts about your best friend and think he looked like some Greek god? Isla wasn't sure, but she brushed her thoughts aside and discarded her bicycle a street away from Theo's house so she wouldn't be caught on tap and alert his dad. The man was always on edge, but Isla reckoned that probably came with the job description of being sherif.

Isla ran across the house and stood directly under Theodore's balcony. She picked up the ladder Theodore always hid behind a couple of bushes for her and propped it against the side of his house. Taking a deep breath, she started climbing while cursing Theodore to the moon and back. Isla was never an athletic person, she would rather laze around all day with a bag of hot Cheetos instead of walking the block around her house. But after Theodore's freidnship, she found herself feeling lighter and carrying her weight better because of all the sneaking out she does on his behalf. Still, it didn't mean she was fond of it.

How Romeo did all that climbing without getting tired of Juliet and her stupid balcony was something Isla was never going to understand.

"Hey, Theo!" Isla knocked twice on his window. When he didn't answer it, she tried to open it but his window turned out to be locked.

"Teddy."

Theodore opened the window hastily with a scrunched up face. "Don't c-c-call me tha-at."

"Well, you wouldn't answer me so I figured that would get your attention. So far, the method has proven to succeed so I think I'll stick to it." Isla said, climbing into his room and throwing herself into his bed. She snuggled deep into his huge bed and comfortable blanket.
