Our Demons

I stare at her dis-oriented form
In the early night of dawn.

I follow the trail
Of the tears that stained her face.

Words left her lips,
Tears left my eyes.

"I can't be yours", she said
Her voice was filled with remorse.

I tightened my hold on her hand
As she loosened her hold on mine.

"Please, don't leave",
My voice, full of emotion
Her eyes, void of any emotion.

"I have terrifying demons,
How can you love me?
Like all the others,
Shouldn't you loathe me?"
Her voice was faint
My chest contracted in pain.

"I, too, have my demons.
You still love me, don't you?
Unlike all the others
You didn't leave me, did you?"
Sadness masked her face as
Continued my heartbroken voice

"You made me so happy
I made you happy too,
But then I realised
My demons will destroy you.
But it was too late
Cause I had fallen for you,
Now you are a part of me
And I a part of you.
If you leave me,
I would be lonely.
If you leave me,
No one will hold me.
If you leave me,
Who will understand me?
If you leave me,
My demons will haunt me."

"I am sorry", she said and
My heart cracked.

"I have to leave", she said and
My heart tore.

"And let you be free", she said and
My heart drowned as
Her hands left my hold,
Numbness took over,
And I felt cold.
"Goodbye." Her voice told.

Her eyes filled.
My heart stilled.

"Please don't go",
Was all I said.
Falling on my knees
The hard cold floor beneath.
Feeling my demons take over me,
As she left.
