Dawnpaw sat by the apprentice den, trying to shield herself from the slow fall of rain, she was really starting to hate the feeling of wet fur. Thornpelt had instructed her to wait in camp because she had something to do. She wasn't sure what it was, but she couldn't imagine it being fun knowing her mentor. Dawnpaw could tell that she wasn't the only one of the her Clanmates that hated the rain, most SunClan cats were in their dens or taking some kind of shelter if they weren't out in the forest.
Dawnpaw spotted Yarrowpaw entering camp from it's back entrance, his jaws full of wet moss. His long, gray fur was clogged with water, his green eyes betrayed that he certainly wasn't happy about being soaked. The soggy apprentice made his way to the medicine cat den where he disappeared inside.
In the moon since Dawnpaw and the others travelled to the Moonstone, Yarrowpaw had been cleared for light duties but he store wore the reminders of the attack with scars on his shoulder and chest. They were fully healed, but most of the apprentices bore scars from that day.
Movement caught Dawnpaw's attention and she looked towards the center of camp where she saw Fawnpaw exiting the SunTree with Flowerstar at her side. The brow she-cat look up at her leader with unsteady eyes, she was nervous. Flowerstar's gaze was steady, but didn't appear to be angry. Were they talking about her earning her warrior name finally? Dawnpaw had noticed slight improvement in Fawnpaw's attitude, she had worked hard and been nicer to be around, even if Dawnpaw still didn't spend much time with her.
Flowerstar said something to Fawnpaw which caused her green eyes to light up brighter than the sun. She dipped her head and appeared to be thanking Flowerstar, she turned and bounded off towards the warrior den where Icepetal and Snowtail were sitting outside. Flowerstar watched the she-cat run off with amusement in her eyes, then turned away into her den.
Dawnpaw could only assume that Flowerstar said that Fawnpaw could have her warrior ceremony, otherwise she wouldn't be as excited. Dawnpaw heard rustling and turned her head to the camp's entrance where a patrol was pushing their way into camp. Snakewhisker led the patrol with Crowfur, Applespots, Redclaw and Thornpelt behind him. Dawnpaw twitched her ears, why didn't Thornpelt take her on patrol with him?
She bit back her resentment as her mentor approached her. Before speaking, Thornpelt glanced at Fawnpaw and Icepetal, then back to Dawnpaw. "Come with me, we're going into the forest."
Dawnpaw jumped to her paws, she loved hunting and she assumed that's what they were doing. "Are we going hunting?" She questioning, longing for the rush of catching prey.
"You'll see when we get there." Thornpelt said without patience, he turned and headed back towards the camp entrance. Dawnpaw wasn't sure what they were doing, but she followed without argument. At least she would be doing something other than sitting idly in the rain doing nothing.
Dawnpaw had noticed that since she became Thornpelt's apprentice, she didn't like doing nothing. She liked being active, hunting or training and keeping her paws busy, especially in the chilly rain. Dawnpaw followed her mentor quickly as he moved through the wet forest, when she had first became his apprentice she could barely keep up with him, but now she was right on his heels.
Dawnpaw realized they were heading towards the training area, but she could scent other cats. She quickly picked out Turtlepaw and Lionpaw, as well as Goldenpaw and Cinderpaw. Dawnpaw and Thornpelt stepped into the training area and saw the apprentices as well as their mentors.
Lionpaw met Dawnpaw's gaze with excitement burning in his eyes. Behind Dawnpaw, she heard the leaves rustling and Fawnpaw and Icepetal stepped into the training area.
"Today," Rustpelt began speaking. "Is the warrior assessments for Lionpaw, Goldenpaw and Fawnpaw." Dawnpaw looked at Lionpaw in surprise. Lionpaw a warrior? Dawnpaw noticed that he truly looked like a warrior. His muscles were visible underneath his pelt, and he stood tall and proud. Goldenpaw too looked like a warrior, slender and beautiful.
