Oceans

As a child the ocean seems a bright place

The sun beating down on the light yellow-white sand

And laughter as kids play

And tears when another get's salt in their eyes

But little do these children know

The ocean is dark at night

The moon and stars only shine bright where they can see

What they don't know is what lies beneath

Hidden in beauty and colors

The ocean get's darker towards the floor

Where less and less of the glimmering light

Reaches the living

But the living still know that it's there

And many choose to hide from it

It's hurt their eyes too many times

So they shy away from it

Others, can't stand the feeling of drowning

They struggle and fight

But every time they catch a glimpse of the light

They burn, and fall back into the darkness, further than before

They never realized that, they were going down

It was like a slide at first

Everything was fun and whimsical

Until you, hit the bottom and scraped your knee

But at first you get back up

And you get back on the slide

You go down and down it

And then you break your leg

By the time it's healed you've changed

Your world has changed and there are no more slides

Only people who've heard about your broken leg

Only people who will spy on you to spread lies

You can't swim with a broken leg

You can't really walk with one either

So you use a crutch

You need something to help you

But depending on this crutch makes it harder

So when you're being chased and you're at the edge of a cliff

You don't see it

And you slip and fall

This time, you're paralyzed

Stuck in a wheelchair

The doctors say you might be able to walk again

But you know you'll be stuck there the rest of your life

So now you can't swim

And this metal chair is pulling you down

And before you know it

The light has faded

No sun, no moon, and no stars

Just the kraken and seaweed to guide you

You can still see everyone

Some walking on the surface, others just below

But you can't yell out

Can't call for help

Or to even shout a warning to those about to drown

To those who are leaning on their crutch

You try to yell as they approach the cliff

Try to scream and tell them to turn around

But it's hard when the air you breath fills your lungs and chokes you

For water is filling your lungs

You watch and sit there tied to your chair

Watch some plummet off the cliff behind you

Sit there as your chair slides

Slowly dumping you into Mariana's Trench

But what can you do

They have swam down in their wetsuits

Given you an oxygen tank

But of course it runs out, it's just not enough

Why are you drowning, but still alive

Why does no one see that you're there

Are you even there do you even exist

Or in their eyes are you just a problem to be pushed aside

Can you be simply ignored and you'll go away

Maybe

Or will you fall further down

Where they won't be able to bring you any more oxygen

Or will you free yourself

Make it back on top of that cliff

You know you won't be able to resurface

But here you can get enough oxygen

Here

At the top of the cliff

On your crutches

You can almost breathe
