Aftermath

There standing there was my brother. "Shade?" I whispered. He nodded and I settled into probably the 100th hug I've had all night.

Cal's POV
        We were at dinner one second and then it was a battle the next. I didn't know what was going on. Everything was in chaos. The king, queen, and Maven were rushed to the escape room but I stayed behind to fight. This attack was probably a result of the horrid scarlet guard.
After about 15 minutes of fighting everyone started to realize that something was wrong. There was no scarlet guard here fighting. It was just us. The lights flickered back on. There was tables overthrown and plates crashed but no one was hurt. Well almost no one.
      I saw Lucas come up to me. He was usually calm and didn't show much emotion but I could tell in his eyes that something was wrong. "Your Highness you must follow me," he said. I didn't want to cause him to be upset so I didn't ask him anything else.
     He took me down to the ballroom. The sliver high houses were all there including my family. The room's mood was somber when I walked in. By now I was so confused on what was going on. The people in the room bowed to me when I walked in and I gave them a smile hoping to lighten the mood. I walked over to my family. Elara was crying hysterically but I could tell that is was fake. My guess was that someone was hurt but I didn't know who. I then saw tears in Maven's eyes and then realized something.
   "Where is Mare?" I said with a shaking breath. The look Maven gave me was enough. No this can't be real I thought. It's all my fault she was sitting beside me I should have protected her.
    I then remembered I heard Mare say something before the attack. I thought she was just talking to herself. I heard her say I'll miss you. So did she know she was going to die? This was all too much. Maven tried to reach out to me but I pushed him away and ran out the room, every silver in the room with their eyes on me as I ran.
