A/N: lol editing, sorry
You and Niall were best friends; you had been since year 2. It was now your last year of high school and your boyfriend (of a year) had gone off to college. At first you were all over each other constantly calling, texting and skyping each other. He had been off for half a year calls were shorter, times between text messages got longer and skyping only happened on rare occasions. You were left feeling empty and unloved. Well not completely empty and unloved; you still had Niall.
It was nice that your boyfriend had respected the fact that you and Niall were somewhat of a package deal. Meaning that if he couldn't get along with Niall and respect that relationship between you and him then they couldn't have you. Niall was your "big brother". He always protected you; even now. He understood that you'd be friends and stay close even though you had a relationship with him. This is what probably kept most of your relationships from thriving; they were all somewhat jealous of Niall. You always explained to them that it was a strictly platonic relationship but they wouldn't have it. You weren't going to throw away almost a lifetime friendship for a stupid guy that you would most likely end up breaking up with after high school anyways.
You pulled up to his house and honked your horn. "Come on Niall! I can't have another tardy." you muttered to yourself, a minute later the Irish lad popped out of his house.
He opened the passenger door after putting his book bag in the back seat, "How is my [Y/N] doing today?" he asked in hopes that acting sweet would excuse his tardiness.
"Niall. Really?" you said pulling out of his driveway.
"Oh come on, I had to-" Niall said trying to explain his tardiness.
You cut him off "Niall this isn't about you being late" you said switching the car into drive and speeding off. "Well I mean it would be nice for you to be on time but you why I'm upset, the real reason" you said giving him a look and then turning your attention toward the road again.
"[Y/N]!" Niall exclaimed, "Is this really about me saying how's my [Y/N] doing today?" he finished. You kept silent and kept on looking ahead at the road emotionless. Niall took that as a yes and continued "I use to say that to you all of the time but then [Y/BF/N] came along and now I feel like I have to tip toe on egg shells to be your friend" he said.
"Niall, it's just that I really love [Y/BF/N]" you said looking at him for a second.
"I know you do and believe me I'm glad you're happy, I wouldn't have it any other way but... never mind forget it." Niall said looking out the window.
His face was turning a slight shade of pink as you pulled into the school parking lot "No come on tell me." you said. You put the car in park, took out your keys and looked at him.
"We're going to be late." Niall said in a monotone voice looking at students walking into the school. You both got your book bags out of the back seat.
"Don't think that this conversation is over." you said in a whisper as you both walked up to the school.
You and Niall had both made it into homeroom with only seconds to spare. Homeroom lasted 15 minutes and was mainly about upcoming school events and forums to get signed so you didn't get to talk to Niall. That was the only class you had together. You went through the day thinking about what Niall had meant to say to you.
At the end of day you ran to your car and waited for Niall. As soon as you saw him come out of the school you had this weird thought "has Niall always been this cute?" you mumbled to yourself as you see his wavy golden locks. You came back to reality as you heard Niall slam the door to your backseats. He got in the passenger seat you stayed still for a few seconds
