The ex wants either a) the main character's mate back, or b) the main character back.
Example: "Please, honey. I know you want me back," she says, putting her hand on his chest. "I will rather date Hitler then ever come back to you," he growled and pushed her away.
Why This Is Annoying: I never had a boyfriend or girlfriend... so 😭😭
How To Fix This: This really hurts because think about it. If you had an ex-boyfriend or girlfriend then you are called an 'ex' by them. And the ex is usually portrayed mean and abusive. And calling names in books. So every ex there is (maybe even YOU) is thought of 'evil' because of these kinds of books. Were you abusive or mean? Because in books apparently, you were. Now the ex can be an ally or something. Don't automatically make the ex the bad guy. You have a chance to make a great character. Take the chance
