You were running away from Kai but unfortunately, you weren’t fast enough.
“Okay, okay. You got me, you dork.” You surrendered as Kai came up from behind in a back hug & set his chin on your shoulder.
There was an awkward silence between the both of you. None of you dare to speak up. You can even hear your heart thumps loudly in your chest as you were in Kai’s tight embrace.
“Oh? Sorry..”
Kai instantly broke the hug & rubbed the nape of his neck. You stepped backwards since you were way to close to him, your cheeks were flushing red in embarrassment.
“What are you thinking about? Is there something wrong?” You asked, changing the topic when you seemed to notice Kai was having a deep thought of something. He glanced your way, shrugging as he said, “I don’t know..” He shortly replied. “But…” He added, staring at you. You gazed up at him curiously, waiting for him to proceed.
“I think I’m in love.”
He continued in a low tone, you can barely hear his statement. You softly gasped due to his unexpected remark.
“What? In love? You’ve got to be kidding me, Kkamjong-ah.” You stated, letting out an awkward laugh to cover up the shock.
Kai chuckled while nodding his head a few times before answering, “No, seriously. I’m not kidding. This isn’t a joke, ____-ah.” He poked your nose. You looked at him straight into his eyes & somehow, you were sure he wasn’t making a stupid joke to put on a prank. You don’t know why but you didn’t seriously believe him.
“I-Is it—“ You were cut by Kai before you could even finish your words, “Krystal? Jung Soo Jung? No.” He said, he seemed to be able to read your mind. You raised a brow, feeling slightly confused.
Kai once told you he liked this girl named Jung Soo Jung in your school or known as Krystal. You had to admit she was the prettiest girl you’ve ever seen –compared to a plain old nerd like you- & you don’t doubt that a guy like Kai would fall for her. But Kai just announced she wasn’t the one he liked. So.. The question is
“Who is it then?” You asked, pretending to be as normal as you can & tried to control yourself including your feelings. “Do I know this lucky girl?” You added, eyeing Kai.
“Oh, you know her well.” He replied with a some kind of ‘creepy’ smirk plastered across his face.
“So.. Care to tell me?” You shot him a question, feeling annoyed due to his actions. But, instead of answering, Kai kept silent & stared at you for a moment.
“I love you.” Kai blurted those words. You gasped in shocked by his sudden ‘confession’. “W-What?” You stuttered, eyes widened as you spoke. But, Kai burst into laughter as he saw your reactions to his words; to you, his laugh sounded like a sweet melody & the way his lips curling up was too adorable.
He was still guffawing while you had this ‘what-the-heck-is-wrong-with-him’ look on your face. You blankly looked at him, still laughing like crazy he is. As he managed to calm himself down, he said, “You should see your face just now. Sorry, I’m just kidding. It’s a joke.” He grinned sheepishly at you.
Your jaw hung a bit at his reply but covered it with a nod, completely taken aback by his ’confession’ earlier as you walked away faster.
Kai who was left behind giggled at how cute you could get when you were angry & immediately ran up to you.
“Hey, wait up!”
His warm hand grasped your shoulder & spun you around to face him. You gazed up at him –since he was way taller than you-, giving him a death glare. Kai was smiling sweetly at you. He brought his hand to your face & took off your spectacles. You blinked innocently as he did.
Then, he reached out & tugged on the strands of hair that dangled in front of your eyes. Your breathing slowed when his fingers brushed your forehead.
Soon, he leaned down towards you. You could feel his breath close to your face. He whispered as his face was just an inch further than yours,
“You know ever since the first time we met, it was always been you I liked. I felt lonely before but then you came to my life; filling the loneliness with happiness instead. Do you know how happy I am I met you? Every day I spent together with you, I became less & less lonely. That’s why, the thing I’ve always wanted to tell you but couldn’t is, I like you.”
He stared at you, looking straightly to your eyes. You opened your mouth to speak, “I was scared & I didn’t have the courage to say it until this time. To me, you are special, Kai. An extremely important person I don’t want to lose. I want you for myself because I’m selfish. Yes, I’m selfish. Can’t you see it?”
By now, the tears that escaped your eyes blurred your whole vision. You felt Kai cupped your cheeks with his cold hands & leaned closer to you for a sweet yet passionate kiss. The moment your lips touched, this was where you’ve felt the happiest.
