Names are overrated
Only certain types of people get to have names, the ones that are known
The girls in your school that wear pink and have more friends than you'll ever have
Because you're just the outcast kid, the one that wears black and hides behind a mask
The lonely one
Lonely people don't get names
They're just called "that girl," "that boy," "that kid," "that freak"
You become so jealous of people with names
You wish you could be known the way they are
If you're different your name is irrelevant, because people will just call you what they want to call you
Only the pretty, popular girls get names, and the jocks that follow the pretty girls everywhere
In a competition to see who can get in what girl's pants first
That girl you pass in the hallway, the one with black hair and black clothes
The one that goes home everyday to an abusive family
The one that has a sick mother, the lonely child that has to carry everything at home on her back
The girl that has to fight for her life
She doesn't get a name
She doesn't get to be known
The girl that couldn't take it anymore
The girl that was so lonely and sad that she cut her own wrists and bled out alone in her bathroom
The same girl that you walked by in the hallway but never even gave her a smile
The girl that you didn't apologize to when you ran into her and dropped all of her things on the floor
You laughed and walked away
The girl that didn't get a name
Is the same girl that died thinking she had nobody
All it took was a smile, or a hello, anything to let her know she wasn't alone
But you stripped her name from her and labeled her as a freak, a psycho, a nobody, nameless
The nameless girl that will now never know, she wasn't alone
Because nameless people are the most hurt people
We hide behind masks
Because we can't let anyone know we're hurting
Who would care?
Nameless people are the loneliest people
So flash them a smile
Sit with them at lunch
Let their nameless identity, be somebody again.
You are never alone, you matter. Your name matters. Don't hide your pain, people care. I promise.
