New Chapter! I quite enjoyed writing this one((: Peace Out!
>Picture of Callum to the right<
"Demi, please say something...” Mrs. Geter said finally after countless failed attempts. She looked up to the clock, knowing that 'Helen' was running out of time. Demi's mind had been mainly focused on the experience she'd had in the car this morning with Callum.
"I understand..." his words echoed in her head.
She suppressed a sigh and gave up thinking about it. She stood up the moment she saw the minute hand of the clock hit the hour. She abruptly walked to the door so that 'Helen' didn't catch her before she left. Demi walked out of the room and stopped when she saw Callum waiting outside the office. She locked eyes with him for a moment before she bit her lip and walked past him to her next lesson. Why was he waiting for Mrs. Geter? He seemed to have a normal life, well, he kept to himself but his dad was always happy. She didn't know what she was missing?
And then it hit her. Where was his mum?
"I understand..." his words echoed in her mind, she understood him now. Wow. She didn't know what to make of that?
Demi sighed silently and went to her drama lesson; she saw Jess sitting in the corner with Mark, Alice and Paul, their drama friends. Demi walked over slowly and sat down on the floor beside them, they were discussing last night’s Eastenders. Demi rolled her eyes, what a terrible programme, she thought to herself.
Jess looked to Demi and grinned, "Hey Dems, how was shrinkhour today? As enthralling as ever?.." she asked with a laugh, drawing out the word enthralling. Demi smiled weakly and nodded. Jess nodded "Thought as much!..". The rest of the day dragged out slowly until the bell finally went for lunch. They had a whole day of drama on a Thursday.
Jess and Alice entered the lunch hall and went over to get food. Jess had her usual chips and salad combo and Demi just got the chips and an apple. They walked outside to their normal bench, when out of the corner of Demi's eye she saw Callum sitting all alone on the bench by the T block. Demi looked over to him and bit her lip; she looked to Jess who had now stopped to see what was going on. "Come on Dems...” she said to her reaching out to drag Demi to their bench, but Demi shrugged her off and walked over to where Callum was sitting. When he looked up, she silently sat down beside him. "Hey...” he said to her softly, she looked over to him for a moment before looking back to her food, taking a bite out of her apple. She felt Jess sit beside her and looked up to her. Jess gave her the I’ll-go-with-it look. Demi looked down to her food and smiled softly.
When she got home, Demi got out of the Mr. Young’s car quickly and walked up to her front door. She opened it for the twins and they ran in quickly. They were going to a party, so were rushing to get changed.
"Demi, just knock when they're ready and I’ll give them a lift up...” Mr. Young said and Demi turned round and nodded. She went in and helped the twins. After half an hour of "Demi is this alright?.." and "Where are my football shoes Demi!..." she finally managed to get them out of the house. Demi walked over to Mr. Young's and knocked on the door. Callum answered "Oh...Hey...Why are?...Oh...DAD, Rory and Poppy are here.." he called out. He stepped out of the way so he dad could get past. Mr. Young walked out and over to the car. "6 o'clock pick up right?.." he asked from the car. Demi nodded.
She watched Mr. Young pull out and drive off. "So, erm, do you want to come in?..." Demi spun round not realising that Callum was still there. She bit her lip hesitantly but then nodded. Callum smiled instantly and moved out of the way to let her in.
Standing in the hall way looking at the photos on the wall, Demi could help but think that the whole situation was going to be horribly awkward. She looked to see Callum watching her; she blinked and stared back to him. "Hungry?" he asked and she shook her head. "Thirsty?" he asked once again, Demi was going to shake her head again and then realised that she was so nodded politely.
"This way...” Callum said and led her into the kitchen. He gestured towards the stool that were by the table and walked over to the fridge. He got some coke out and cocked an eyebrow as to say, this okay? Demi nodded with a smile and looked around the kitchen. Callum poured to cups of coke and then sat down opposite Demi. He didn't say anything, just drank his drink and watched her. She kind of liked the silence. He wasn't trying to push her to talk, or trying to make annoying conversation, he was just, sitting with her, keeping her company. Demi liked that. Plus, even though it was silent, it wasn't awkward like she thought it would be, it was, tranquil.
Callum stood up "One minute...” he said and ran upstairs. Demi frowned confused but just took a sip of her coke. Callum quickly returned with a bundle of paper, He laid them out on the table in front of her. "Drawing helped me....Whenever i couldn't express my feelings or felt like just screaming, I’d let out my feelings on the paper...” he said quietly. Demi looked at all the pictures, one particular one grabbed her. It was a black room; apart from an illuminated corner with had a person curled up with a pained expression on their face. She picked it up studying it closely. This was her. Trapped in a big black room, with only herself. He knew. He knew what it was like.
"You can keep it...” he said quietly and Demi looked up to him. She nodded quietly.
After what seemed like forever she heard Callum take in a deep breath.
"I didn't speak for 3 weeks..." he said looking into her eyes.”I know it's the not the same as nearly 2 months but...I know." he said. He didn't need to say anymore, Demi knew exactly what he was trying to say.
"How did she die?..." Demi whispered.
Callum’s green eyes widened "Cancer..." he said quietly but smiled softly.
Demi nodded and looked into his eyes with a sad look. He shook his head "It's fine, it's almost been two years since...it happened, I’m slowly getting there.." he said more loudly than before.
Demi nodded again and reached across the table to squeeze his hand in support. Callum smiled softly looking down at their hands.
Demi remained silent for the rest of the time she was there. She continued to look through Callum’s drawings with him. At half five Demi stood up to leave. Callum walked her to the door and opened it for her. As she was walking out he touched her shoulder for a moment, "I'm here for you...” he said quietly. Demi turned to him for a moment before walking back to her house.
