hyungwon and i were sitting on his porch drinking soda.
"bun, i want to ask you something." hyungwon spoke with a very serious tone (it was a bit funny to hear him call me "bun" in such a serious way).
"okay, ask away."
he opened his mouth to speak, but instead of hearing his voice, we heard the voice of a girl; "hey, hyungwon!"
i looked up to see somi standing at the end of hyungwon's walkway with a smile on her face.
hyungwon stood up from the porch and started walking toward her so i, of course, did the same.
"hey, somi." hyungwon smiled to the girl once he reached her. "you just getting home from dance?"
somi nodded, her smile still on her face. "i had to stay a little later to help prep for that surprise assembly that-" she stopped talking when she realized i was standing next to hyungwon. "oh, i'm so sorry, i didn't notice you! hi! i'm somi!"
everything about her was so bright, her smile, the way she talked. i could just tell that she's a positive person, one that would be a good match for hoseok.
"it's okay!" i offered her a small smile. "it's nice to meet you, i'm hyunmi."
as soon i said my name her eyes and smile widened as she looked back and forth from me to hyungwon. "so you're the famous hyunmi i've heard so much about!" she tried to discreetly wink at hyungwon, but she failed. "it's so nice to finally meet you."
before i could respond, hyungwon told somi that we had to go back to sitting on the porch and drinking soda, brushing her off and telling her to go home. she quickly said goodbye to us before walking down the street to her own home.
"she seems really nice. i didn't know you two were, like, friends." i started talking once we sat back down on his porch.
"we talk sometimes. she is super nice, she's like a cute little energetic puppy." he took a sip of his soda before turning his attention to me. "so i want to ask you something. i want you to be completely honest with me, okay?"
"hyungwon, you're scaring me a little." i let out a nervous chuckle. "but okay, i'll be completely, 100% honest with you."
he smiled softly at me as he put his soda down, taking a deep breath. "okay. d-do you have any feelings that aren't strictly platonic for hoseok?"
i shook my head. "not at all. he's my best friend and nothing more."
hyungwon nodded slowly. he looked down at his hands which i noticed were shaking a bit. he took another deep breath before looking back up at me. "i like you."
my cheeks began to get warmer as soon as the words left his mouth. i could feel my heartbeat get faster.
"y-you do?"
he nodded with a small smile. "i have for awhile now and i wanted to tell you sooner, but i was worried about hoseok."
"you shouldn't have been worried about him. i-"
"you two are only friends, i know." his smile widened has he cut me off, causing me to smile with him. "i was just scared." his smile faded slowly. "now you know. but i don't want to know if you feel the same way. not yet."
my smile had also faded at that point. "why not?"
he thought for a second before opening his mouth to speak. "i want you to really consider your feelings. in a few days, you can tell me if you feel the same way or not." he slowly took hold of my hand, causing a tingly feeling to shoot through my body. "and it's okay if you don't feel the same way. don't worry about things being awkward."
"hyungwon-"
"lets go inside, it's getting chilly."
