"hyunmi, are you coming over after school?" hoseok asked me as we walked to our sixth class of the day.
i let out a loud and long sigh. "i can't, i got detention again."
"again? jesus fuck, what'd you do this time?"
"it wasn't even my fault. yerim was being annoying and talking too much so when i told her to shut up, that's when mr. ahn decided to turn around and tell me i was being disruptive."
hoseok sighed and wrapped an arm around my shoulder. "next time just let the girl talk, you've been getting detention too often lately."
we walked into our class, taking our seats next to each other.
"i feel like we never hang out anymore."
"hush, i was over two days ago." he rolled his eyes at me. "i can try to come over today after detention, but my mom would be annoyed."
hoseok whined. "i really don't get why she hates me so much."
"no, it's not that she hates you, she just thinks we're weird."
hoseok opened his mouth to speak only to be cut off by someone else's voice.
"most people think the two of you are weird." i turned my head to see minhyuk sitting in his seat while smiling at me.
seulgi sat down in her seat next to him. "yeah, that's true. you guys should just date already."
both hoseok and i gagged while mimicking the body motions of vomiting.
"why would i date her when i have my eye on someone else?"
"wait, you do? who?" hyungwon turned around in his seat to face the rest of us.
before hoseok could answer, the teacher walked in the room and every sound stopped as class began.

after detention had finally ended, i began walking home only to be interrupted by someone grabbing ahold of my hand, causing my heart rate to speed up.
i turned my head to see hoseok with a goofy smile plastered on his face, calming down my heart.
"i told you to stop doing that to me!" i lightly smacked his chest as he laughed at me.
"how was detention, you delinquent?" hoseok asked after his laughter calmed down and we resumed walking to my house, hand in hand.
i rolled my eyes at the term "delinquent". "it was boring. it was only me and jooheon."
"how was it boring? jooheon is tons of fun!"
"if there was more people there, it would've been easier for everyone to talk but it was only us so we had to stay silent. mr. ahn is too strict."
for a few minutes we walked in silence until i remembered where our conversation had left off in sixth period, causing me to hit hoseok's chest again.
"who's the girl you like? and why didn't you tell me first?"
it was strange for him to not tell me something before everyone else. we always tell each other everything first.
"i don't know if you know her. her name is jeon somi, she's a grade below us. she's cute. she's talented. she's funny. she's smart. she's-"
"okay you're ranting!" i cut him off with a light laugh. "but anyway, i think i've seen her around. i-"
"isn't she the cutest?" he squeezed my hand with excitement.
it was weird seeing him act like this, but it was also kind of adorable.
he continued to talk about her until we reached my house and said our goodbyes.
"mom, i'm home!" i yelled as i made my way to the couch.
my mother walked into the living room where i was now sitting on the couch. "why are you home late? were you with hoseok?"
"no, i got detention. hoseok did walk me home, though."
she let out a loud sigh when i mentioned detention before walking back into the kitchen, to resume cooking dinner, i'm assuming.
as i flipped through channels on the tv, i couldn't stop thinking about hoseok and the girl he likes, and i had no idea why.
