~Seventeen~

Ashly's POV:

"That absolute punk!" I screamed, punching the wall.

"What absolute punk?" Zane asked, flipping through some magazines.

We were sitting on Zane's bed in the room we shared cause we're brother and sister and the ultimate team.

"Jaden! Maya came crying to me this morning, and asked if I knew what to do if someone broke up with someone to protect them. What a jerk! Can't he see he hurt her?" I punched the wall again, breaking the skin on my knuckles, causing them to bleed.

Zane gently wiped the blood off with a tissue, shrugging.

"Sounds like Jaden. He's a bit impulsive if you ask me. But it sounds like he really didn't think it'd go like how you describe it. Maybe she should talk to him," my brother said, not looking up. "Like I care about you, little sister," he finished, wrapping up my hand.

Zane had picked me over himself in the duel with the vampire Camula, showing to basically the world he really cared about me.

"If someone did that to you what would you do?" I asked.

"I'd try and stick it out. See what happens. Hold on until I had to let go. But that's just me, I'm not saying Maya has to do anything at this point."

This didn't sound like the regular Zane at all. Then again, we'd all changed.

"Well, I'm gonna get to sleep," I said, crossing the room and flopping onto my bed.

Zane put away his manga, yawning. "I will as well. Goodnight."

-in the dead of night-

"Ashly! Ashly! Wake up!" Zane yelled, shaking my shoulders.

I opened my eyes groggily. "What? Is it sandwich day?"

"It's Atticus!"

Boom. Out of bed and into the hospital.

"Jaden, Maya and Alexis are at the abandoned dorm- Alexis is dueling to get Atticus's memory back."

Zane and I pulled Atticus out of bed, working together to get him to the dorm, where we watched a lot of stuff go down. Long story short, Lexi won- and Atticus's memory was restored.

"Well, Alexis, looks like you've grown up a lot since I left," Atticus said with a smile.

Alexis blushed and hugged her brother, smiling as well. All of a sudden, Atticus let go of his sister and caught Zane and me in a huge bear hug. "How are my favorite Truesdales?"

Zane shrugged, patting Atticus's back. "Not bad, Atticus. You?"

Atticus grinned. "Alive, buddy."

I surprised Atticus by jumping on his back and kissing his cheek. "ATTY!"

The brunette Obelisk laughed, swinging me off his back and kissing my cheek. "Ashly! What's up?"

"Look up," I said. When Atticus's eyes flicked up, I grabbed his collar and kissed him, shocking literally everyone except Zane.

Atticus pulled back, smiling. "I don't know how long I've been waiting for you to do that," he said. He glanced over at Zane, like, is it okay that I just kissed your sister?

Zane just nodded. "Oh, Atticus?"

"Yeah?"

"Hurt her and I'll send you straight back to the Shadow Riders."

Atticus gulped but nodded.

Jaden laughed. "Oh, Zane. You're so overprotective!"

Zane cut Jaden a fierce glare that caused him to actually take a couple of steps back, bumping into Maya, who ignored him.

"So, what actually happened, then?" I quickly asked.

"Well, a few other students and I were told we were having our exam in the abandoned dorm. When we got there, we were sucked into some sort of portal thing."

"Who told you to come?" I pressed.

"Some guy named Banner, one of the professors."

Jaden and Alexis both gasped. "Banner?"

Even Zane was rocked. "Not Banner."

"Banner."
