chapter 5
Wrapped in Caladrius arms were giving Rebekah strength to cope with the upcoming events. ‘Sure as hell it was not going to be easy but if Caladrius remained by her side during the ritual, she will succeed’ she thought to herself.
She focused on the sky to see the eight planets which were even closer than before, now emanating a brownish- orange light from them with a slight yellowish glow around their edges. Being a werewolf- vampire hybrid gave her enhanced abilities and strength, that’s why she was able to distinguish the merged hues of light emanating from the planets.
“It’s time!” she informed Caladrius with a crack. To which he responded with further tightening his hold on her.
“Please…”, he begged again!
Before Rebekah could convince him, there was a slight knock on the royal bedroom’s door.
“Come in” Rebekah strong voice boomed in the silent night.
“Your majesty, Master Dakota wants to inform you that all preparation have been done. If you visit the Ice palace now, they would start the ritual”, the maid informed the King and Queen bowing, keeping her gaze focused only on floor.
“Leave…”, King Caladrius commanded monotonously but his jaw was and hands clenched in fist. The maid scurried away quickly, careful not to collide with anything in her sheer terror.
“YOU ARE NOT DOING THIS”, the King was using his Devil to command his wife.
“Cal…”
“No, it was a mistake. You don’t need to drag yourself in this. I wanted to create him but not at the cost of you.”
“He is still our son and…”
“No”, Caladrius cut her again “See the vermin is not even fully created and he’s already engulfing his own creator… YOU…” he pointed at her with his index finger “… into death.” His dark side kicking in with full force with every word he spoke.
It doesn’t matter if he was Devil or not. Rebekah is his beloved….. She is his other half. Even his Dark side would never hurt her. The evil in him also doesn’t want to lose her.
Rebekah was quiet for a while. Caladrius words cut deep into her heart. For moment she thought if he was right. If her own baby is causing her this pain which was worse than death. There started the kicking and thrashing of the foetus inside her as if he could read her thought. Rebekah tried to pierce through her womb mentally and linked with the baby. All she saw was hurt and anger. It brought her tears of relief.
Caladrius was watching her with irritation, creases covering his temples. She looked up at him smiling. She holds his hands and put them on her belly. Reading her thoughts, he mentally linked with the child. The child actually loves Rebekah to do any damage. Caladrius knew this but he didn’t want to accept it in front of Rebekah or anyone. For moment he was torn between Rebekah and the child. Again he thought it would be best if they stopped the ritual. It would be best if Rebekah lived.
It was his ambition that she was now in this state. He regretted it. He regretted it every moment he saw his dying soul-mate.
A few months ago, this ambition of creating a successor of his throne which can’t be destroyed, took every sense of better judgment from him. He was so blind doing everything to create HIM that he didn’t saw it coming. Rebekah is slowly dying with each passing day.
But in these months she has attached herself so much with the baby that it is everything for her. She loves him more than she loves Caladrius. If it wasn’t for Rebekah’s threat that she hand herself to Gods if he destroyed her or stop the ritual, he would have that foetus problem already out of window.
‘Yes if he can create something like him, he also can destroy him’ he thought to himself.
Rebekah’s tugging snapped him out of his thoughts. She was holding the pearl that his tear become after leaving the contact of his skin. He looked at him confused. She slightly laughed at seeing him confused.
“This look doesn’t suit you”, she explained after watching him frown.
She sobered herself and exhaled. Closing her eyes, Rebekah brought both of his hands forward and hides the pearls in between the palms of her hand and after a few second, she opened her eyes.
“Before we arrive for the Ice palace, I need something from you. Or better I demand it from you.”
Assuming what she her demanded would be related to, he quickly wants to decline it but Rebekah beat him into it by saying, “Sweetheart, please! It’s my last night. My last time with you…”
Caladrius growled at her, veins in his eyes turning red by each word.
Rebekah cupped his cheek and kissed him fiercely to calm him.
Still cupping his cheek she spoke again “Now don’t interrupt me until I’m finished. Okay?”
She was desperately looking into his eyes. He nodded his head with glassy eyes. His heart was thudding loudly, blood draining from his head and he was hearing a slight ringing in his ears. The only thing he ever loved was her. And now he was going to lose her because of his ambition.
“I know it’s my last intimate time with you. Tomorrow I won’t be here….”, her own eyes glassy now. She took a deep breath with difficulty as if her wind pipe was choked.
“… all I ask from you is to take care of our son. I know you believe that he is not actually our reproduction and it’s true. But I want you to accept that he also has your own part in him. And mine also. If you ever love me you would love my part which is in him also.” By now tears were pouring through her eyes. She could hardly see Caladrius. Everything was a blur due to her watery eyes.
She was fiercely wiping her tears to see Caladrius, to see him properly in her last time. She wants to engrave him in her memories forever. But the continuous pouring of tears from her eyes was only making her see his blur figure.
She hugged him tightly, inhaling his deep masculine scent. It was her last time she thought sadly to her. She started roaming her hands on his body. Feeling him every move her fingers made.
This calmed her.
She pulled back and Caladrius grabbed her by waist to pull her back into him but she put her hands on his chest. Time was running. She gave a quick glance to the eight planets. The colours emanating from them were more defining now. She looked at Caladrius in eyes and revealed a platinum ring with same the pearl fallen out of his eyes, in the centre of the ring.
“This ring is a token of our love and a symbol of our promise that you would help our child, our creation as best as you can. You promise to love, care, and guide, teach, protect and stay with him as a father should do.
This ring will remind of me and the promise that you are going to make to me.
Do you promise all the things I said before to me…..?” she asked him with hopeful eyes staring at Caladrius’s blank ones.
So what do you think?
Will Caladrius make the promise to Rebekah?
What if he doesn’t?
What will Rebekah do then?
