i took you to the library,

into a corner that escaped the view of spectators.

most teenagers would use this

as an opportunity to mess around,

but you were too special for that.

you seemed so much better than that.

so instead,

I gave you a book that had captured my attention.

it was about the beauty of perception.

how we can do

or say

something

that we think is totally harmless,

but it actually serves as a knife

cutting your sanity one thread at a time.

you grasped the book in your hands

tightly

as if your life depended on it.

you quickly sat down

and opened it to the first page,

beginning your journey.

the journey I had taken so many times.

hours later you slapped the book shut,

tears pooling in your brown eyes.

"that was beautiful," you whispered as you set the book on the table,

with shaking hands.

you hopped out of your chair and raced to a bookshelf,

your eyes scanning for one book.

your eyebrows were knitted together in concentration.

when you found the desired book

your eyes lit up

like a child staring into the window of a candy store.

you set the book in front of me and raced off,

out into the bustling world,

leaving me, wishing I knew you so much better.

because as mysterious goes,

You were impossible to figure out.
