you were there,

the next day,

and the next day,

and everyday after that.

we would talk,

laughing at the world,

and how someday it was going to end.

about how we wouldn't be there to see it.

about how we both lived such different lives.

about the clouds, and how their seemingly irregular shapes could make something so beautiful.

the one thing I learned about you,

was your love for clouds.

how it seemed that they floated along,

happily,

freely.

and how somedays it looked like they were angry,

and sometimes sad.

but most of all I remember how much they resembled you.

you are a cloud,

metaphorically.

today we were laying,

side by side,

staring at the clouds.

I saw one that looked like you

and pointed to it.

"that one looks like you." I murmured.

you shook your head vigorously.

but I swear that cloud looked exactly like you,

except with a smile etched into the face.

the cloud floated by,

breaking up,

into a million pieces.

i looked over at you,

you were still staring at the clouds,

swirling your fingers in the air,

as if you could break the clouds apart

with such a simple motion.

"clouds are so underrated," you sighed

a look of longing passed over your face.

"they're there day after day,

and when they finally disappear,

no one notices."

I nodded.

you were utterly right.

but I didn't know you weren't talking about clouds.

i didn't know that you meant so much more than that.
