Chapter 11
I knocked on the door of my old house and waited for one of my parents to answer. Dad was the one to open the door and he smiled when he saw me. "You know you can just walk in whenever you want, right?" he asked.
"Oh, right," I said. "Sorry, it would just feel weird for me since I don't live here anymore."
"It's okay," Dad said. "You want to come in?"
"Yeah," I said. He stepped outside so I could walk in as he could for Mom, telling him I was here.
Mom walked out of the kitchen and gave me a hug. "That must have been terrifying," she said. "What happened at the school."
"Kind of," I said. "I was backstage of the theatre, and I felt like that would be the safest place. It was just hard for Kenny once he found out exactly why we were in a lockdown."
"Is he okay now?" Mom asked.
"A bit," I said. "He's probably not going to school tomorrow though just so he could take a breather. Anyway, I have to tell you something. Me telling you kind of slipped my mind, and apparently a lot of people know about it so I was hoping I could tell you before you heard it from someone else. Did you hear about it?"
"Yes, we totally know what you're talking about," Dad said.
"Well, it would be obvious what I'm talking about," I said. "Something you might have heard about me in the village that I didn't tell you."
Dad shook his head. "Nope. We haven't heard anything about you. What is it?"
"Well....I'm kind of sort of going to be a dad," I said.
Mom and Dad looked at each other before looking back at me. "I'm sorry, what?" Mom asked.
"I think he said he's going to be a dad," Dad said.
"I know that," Mom said. "I meant how."
"Sex," Dad said. "Obviously sex."
Mom sighed. "Yes, I know that too. I mean when Calvin is gay."
"That's still sex," Dad said.
"I am ignoring you now," Mom said. "So, Calvin, how? Did you just randomly sleep with a girl?"
"Technically, yeah," I said. "It was a few months ago and I was drunk."
"A few months ago and you're telling us now?" Mom asked.
"I just found out about it," I said. "Can we go sit in the living room? I don't want to keep standing."
Once we were sitting in the living room, Mom said, "You're going to have to tell us exactly what is going on."
"Okay, so you know Destiny, right?" I asked. "One of my best friends?" They both nodded. "Yeah, so, when she was broken up with Dan and Dan had another girlfriend, he was always saying he would watch their daughter, but he would end up bailing to hang out with his girlfriend. One night, Destiny really wanted to go out somewhere so Ariella offered to watch her daughter, and that night, Destiny and I both got drunk and....Yeah. Anyway, we wanted to forget about it so we did and when she found out she was pregnant again, she thought it was Dan's, but recently she found out she was further along than she thought and there was no way it could be Dan's."
"So it's yours?" Mom asked.
"Yeah, and she even took a paternity test to double check," I said. "So congratulations. You are going to be grandparents."
