Chapter 18
I was really liking actually having my own room instead of sleeping on the couch. When I was on the couch, I would be woken up quite early when Titan or Horatio would go downstairs to get ready for work. I was a very light sleeper, unfortunately.
Not to mention I was a tall person and the couch wasn't long enough. I should have taken Kenny's offer and alternate every night, but he needed a bed a lot more than I did after being shot and hurt.
I did sleep in his bed for a bit when he was in prison, but I never got enough sleep then anyway because I was up most nights worrying about him.
However, even though I now had a room at the Simms' house, I was going to start looking for a job so I could eventually move out. It wouldn't take long since living in Spruceworth was quite inexpensive. I just felt bad living with Kenny and his family.
Don't get me wrong, I loved living with my boyfriend and his family, but I also felt like I wasn't really contributing much, aside from helping Titan cook at times. I was living off of people who weren't really my family.
And if I got my own house, I would be able to kiss Kenny for once because nobody let us kiss anywhere.
I actually knew it wasn't going to take me long to find a job. At least, I hoped it wouldn't take long.
I walked into the diner and where Ariella was working at the counter. She wasn't dealing with a customer at the moment, so I walked over. "Hook me up with a job," I said.
"What?" Ariella asked.
"I need a job, so hook me up with one here," I said.
"Sure," Ariella said before turning towards the kitchen. "Hey, Dan!"
"Yeah?!" Dan called back from in the kitchen.
"Calvin wants a job here!"
"Can he cook?!"
Ariella looked at me. "Can you?"
"Uh, yeah," I said.
"Yeah!" Ariella called to Dan.
"Does he have any references?!"
"Uh, you and Destiny?! And me!"
"And Kenny's dad," I said.
"And Kenny's dad!"
"Okay, he can start tomorrow at noon for training!"
Well, that was easy.
The diner was probably the easiest place to get a job. They didn't look for much experience because Dan and Destiny knew how hard it was for some people to find jobs. Well, it never was for Dan. He was forced to work at his parents' restaurant, and then he opened up the diner. He was already set for life.
I sat down on one of the stools at the counter. "And now, I'll take two strawberry milkshakes," I said.
"Sure thing," Ariella said.
"Do I get the employee's discount now?" I asked.
"Nope, you have to wait until after your first actual shift," Ariella said.
"Damn, that's lame," I said before pulling out my phone and texting Kenny to meet me here. He said he was too lazy, but then I told him I was paying for his strawberry milkshake so he said he was on his way.
