Chapter 27

Indigo was still in the hospital and it had been a few weeks. Not only that, but Josh told me there wasn't any signs that she was getting better. He didn't know how long she would be able to hold on, but I still had my hope.

I had to. Indigo was my boyfriend's mom, and she took my in after I left my home and didn't feel like being in the place my older brother grew up in. Not only that, but she was actually kind of fast to accepting Kenny when he came out. Sure, she didn't accept it right away, but she did the day after.

She was a really sweet person, and I didn't think even I could handle losing her after I already lost so many people I knew this year.

Right as I finished my shift at the diner, I was walking home when Josh walked up to me. "I need a favour," he said.

"Does it include me giving you free food?" I asked.

"No," Josh said. "Wait, is that an option?" He then shook his head. "Never mind. There's a party going on at the pub, and I was going to go with Cassidy but I ended up having to go a bit over my shift. I'm on a break now and she's already at the pub, so I was kind of hoping you could go there to keep her company."

"Two things," I said. "One, why? And two, I'd rather not go to a pub after my tiny drinking problem I had after the whole serial killer thing."

"Cassidy really doesn't want to be at the pub alone," Josh said. "And you don't have to worry about drinking or anything, because that's the whole reason why Cassidy doesn't want to be alone. She doesn't drink, but she also likes to party. Mainly for the free food....Anyway, just tell her you don't want to drink, and she'll make sure you don't."

I sighed. "Fine, I'll go, but you owe me. Not really, because I like free food at parties too."

"Thank you," Josh said. "I'll text Cassidy to let her know my cousin will be there to keep her company, and I'll be there as soon as my shift ends."

Before I went to the pub, I texted Kenny to tell him I was going to be there to keep Josh's girlfriend company until he showed up. As soon as I got to the pub, I scanned through all the people to find Cassidy. It took a while since there was a lot of people there, but I finally found her sitting at a booth by herself.

As soon as I sat down beside her, I didn't get an introduction in before she said, "You better be Josh's cousin and not some random guy coming to flirt with me."

"Oh, no, I totally am a random guy coming to flirt with you," I said. "Just let me break up with my boyfriend first so I'm not cheating on him."

Cassidy chuckled. "And I'll take that as confirmation as you being Josh's cousin. You warned me you have a bit of wit and sarcasm."

"Warned you?" I asked. "Now I'm offended." I thought people appreciated my wit and sarcasm. I guessed my own cousin didn't even though he was almost the exact same way.

"Don't worry, I'd rather have someone witty and sarcastic keeping me company than someone who doesn't talk at all," Cassidy said. "It makes the night more amusing. So, how long have you been with your boyfriend?"

"Oh, uh...." I didn't even know the answer. I probably had to count the months.

....What month did Kenny and I start dating again?

"Don't tell me you don't know," Cassidy said.

"It's not my fault," I said. "We got together at a very crazy part of our lives, and he wasn't out yet so we were basically just friends. Oh, wait...." It had to be February, since he moved to Spruceworth at the end of January. "Eight months. About eight months."
