Gradually Accepting You

Goodbye.

My dad spoke, "Selena, you're here. Your friend Jeff arrived here not too long ago, he came to see you. Said he wanted to talk about a school project?" Jeff nodded his head to confirm his statement.

I walked forward to reveal Troy. My dad's attention was focused on Troy now.

"Hello sir," Troy said.

I stared at Jeff and told Troy, "Um, Troy why don't you talk to my dad for a while? He would love to know more about you. I'll go up with Jeff and go over the details of the project quickly, okay?" Troy nodded.

"I think that's a good idea. I would love to get to know more about Troy here," my dad said.

Jeff and I walked upstairs into my room. I closed my door behind me. I said confused, "I didn't know we had a project."

Jeff chuckled, "You didn't actually think I came here to talk about a project, did you?"

"Well if not then what?"

"I know you like Anna, I can see it."

I completely froze, but quickly replied with, "Come on Jeff, do you really have nothing better to do than to show up at my house and accuse me of such a crime? You're so pathetic," I walked over to the door ready to leave, but he said something that made me stop.

"I'll call the hetero-enforcement. I swear to God I will."

I rolled my eyes and responded with, "Stop playing games, Jeff."

He realized I wasn't taking him seriously, so he blurt out, "Fine, I guess I'll just let Anna know you have a little crush on her, then your friendship will end," he walked toward the door and opened it to leave.

"Wait!" I yelled, "Fine. What do you want?"

"First of all, I want you to stay away from Anna and stop flirting with her. Second, you have a pretty little body yourself. What do you say we-"

I cut him off and said, "You pervert. No way in hell will I do that. Nice try. I can stay off of Anna, but I will not please your 'needs'. I can't believe you would see Anna that way. I can't believe you would treat her like that. She deserves better. In your eyes, you should see her like she's a star. You should love her, even when she burns out. I can't believe she got stuck with someone like you. You're silly for even thinking she's replaceable. You know, you are going to hurt her so bad for this. My darling, Anna, oh god I knew this world was going to fuck her up."

I was talking more to myself than I was to him, but he managed to spit out, "For the last fucking time she's not yours. She loves me, she'll come back to me. I have her under my spell. That doesn't matter, so will you accept my conditions or not? It's the hetero-enforcement or me."

"What you're doing is fucked up, Jeff. As soon as Anna finds out, you won't get away. Whether I'll remember this or not, she will find out about this conversation. But what I will not do is add on to her pain, all because I didn't want to be brainwashed. She risked everything for me. I'm willing to do the same for her."

"You will regret this, Selena. I will make your life miserable after this. Don't play hard to get."

I got so tired of hearing this disgusting shit. I yelled, "Get the hell out of here, Jeff, call the hetero-enforcement, but get the hell out of my house!" I was positive Troy and my dad could hear me.

Jeff scoffed and walked out, slamming the door. I went downstairs after him. He slammed the front door and went out.

"Dad, Troy has to leave now."

"Wait Selena, what the hell just happened?" my dad asked.

"Nothing, 'cmon Troy," Troy asked why and I yelled with, "Now!"

I whispered something in his ear and he left.

I was scared out of my mind, but I wasn't going to disappoint Anna again. I wouldn't be able to live with myself.

It would be minutes until the hetero-enforcement would be here. My dad stared at me as there were tears in my eyes. He opened his mouth to say something, but I guess he didn't know what to say.

"If you care at all for me, you'd tell me the truth. You'd fight for me. Just please, Dad. This is all I've asked of you."
