When I Saw Hogwarts

Chapter 8

"Hoot. Hoot."

"I'm getting up. I'm getting up." I say groggily as I pull myself out of bed. I look around the dorm to see the other girls slowly getting out of bed and getting ready. Some aren't even up yet. I get up and grab my robes and my hat. Then I grab my bag and stuff my first classes books in there. I put my hat in it too so I don't have to wear it all day. I also grab my wand before I forget it. I make my way to the common room where Rookwood's waiting for me. "What took you so long?" He asks as we leave the common room.

"I slept in. I would probably still be asleep if Midnight didn't wake me."

"I knew there was a reason I got you Midnight." He says with a snicker. Rookwood bought Midnight for my ninth birthday. I've loved her ever since. I named her Midnight because of her black feathers. Her eyes are so beautiful being the bright blue that they are.

"Well, she's more than an alarm clock that's for sure," I tell him.

"Whatever." He says and smiles.

We finally make our way to the Great Hall without getting lost. When we enter there's already lots of students in there. We go over to the Gryffindor table and sit down. There's already breakfast so we start eating. More people come in. Two boys from Gryffindor come in and sit across from us. They are really annoying I can tell you that. But one of them is the boy that caught my eye last night.

I see Lily walk in and I wave her over. She comes and sits next to me. "I almost got lost on my way here!" She exclaims. "That's ok. I bet all the first years will get lost at some point in the year. The castle's just so big." I tell her. Lily glances over at the boys across from us. Then she grabs some food and loads her plate.

After we're all done with breakfast we go to find our classes. Professor McGonagall passes out our schedules and we're off. "What are your first classes?" I ask Rookwood and Lily. "Mines Potions," Rookwood says. Lily looks at her schedule. "Mines Transfiguration. What's yours?"

I look at my schedule to find my first class. "Potions." I look at Lily, "I have Charms Second."

"I do too." She says. Rookwood looks at his schedule and says, "Same here. We'll meet you there Lily."

"Ok. We'll all sit together at Charms. Let's head to our first classes."

Lily walks off down one corridor while Rookwood and I head down another. When we enter we see the teacher right away. He's big and jolly that's for sure. When everyone's seated he walks to the front of the class. "Good Morning everyone. I am Professor Slughorn and I am the Potions Master here at Hogwarts." He looks around the room then continues. "In this class, we create and learn about different types of potions, there are many potions, for example, a love potion or a truth potion or a sleep potion. We will be making our own potions as well."
