Chapter 26: I'm Going to Fight

Alexa's P. O. V

After what happened between River and Kane, my brother was making sure we were all prepared to fight this battle. Except I was fighting one in my own home.

When I sided with Kane, I had basically said River didn't matter. Since I'm supposed to always side with my mate. But everyone knows Kane is the true Alpha. He may be like our father, who believed males were the true Alphas and Alpha Females only took the name to keep other females away. Either way, I have hell to pay for doing that to him.

But I know his anger isn't directed at me but was really directed at Kane. He was angry at Kane because he wasn't the one that ended the reason I could never be his again. He hated Tyler and only had him here because I asked him to. And now I live to regret it.

"You're not going and it's final!" River yells and he slams his hand down on my father's desk. I flinch at the sound of his ring against the wood. The carved metal leaves a dent in the desk. When he notices that I had flinched, his level of anger drops. "I'm sorry." He murmurs and he gets up. He quickly leaves and my hand barely misses his.
"River," I call and he keeps walking. My wolf whines at the thought of rejection.
What if this is his way of rejection?
He wouldn't.
How are you so sure? She snaps back and I stay silent.
She could be right. We didn't even share a room anymore. I'd sleep with Johnny in my room, while River took the master bedroom, the Alpha's room. Kane had stayed with his pack in the spare house we had on the property. He didn't want to stay here, where there were too many memories for him.

I hear the phone in my father's office and I race there to answer it before River did. He still doesn't know I'm going to fight. And I don't want him to know.

I answer the phone and I hear Hayden let out a low breath.
"Alexa," she whispers.
"Hayden," I whisper back and she lets out a quiet laugh.
"Kane and I are heading out tomorrow." I say and I can almost see her smile. Just imagining it, brought one to my face.

I wanted to make up for the wrong I've done to her. Being envious, and always trying to be better than her. I've done her wrong, and I will make it up to her.

I go up to my bedroom and begin packing. I grab my hoodies, sweaters, and all things that are comfortable and easy to fight in.

While I was getting my jeans from my dresser, I didn't hear River come in behind me.
"So you're going," he murmurs and I turn.
"Yes. I have to." I say and he growls.
"No, you don't!" He snaps and I remain calm.
"This is why I'm going River." I say and he quickly calms down. "You're too volatile for me. I'm scared of you." I continue and I can feel the tears on my face. "And for that, I must go."
"No, not if it risks your life. You mean too much," he says and I shake my head. "Yes, Alexa. I love you, I do. I'm scared too." He whispers and I look at him. He looked scared. He looked broken.
"River," I say and I walk towards him. I simply place my hand against his cheek and slowly run it down, tracing the curve of his jaw. His eyes close at the contact and he leans into my hand.
"Don't go, please," he whispers and I look up into those gorgeous green eyes. The eyes I've fallen in love with.
"If I don't, who will protect our future? Who will protect our children, our grandchildren?" I ask and he sighs.
"I love you. So I'm going to let you go. Just remember," he tells me and I wrap my arms around him, resting my head against his chest, right over his beating heart.
"I love you too, and know, I always will," I say and I wipe away my tears.

In the days that followed, Kane, the pack, and I made it to Hayden's pack and began preparing. We practiced with her pack and learned how to fight these creatures, in both skins.

Hayden had told me one of her best Enforcers was killed by one of the creatures. By the creature wrapping its arms around him. The Enforcer was in his wolf form and doing a quick patrol when one leapt out at him. It wrapped around from behind and crushed his ribs, which pierced his heart and lungs. When the other Enforcer had caught the creature, it was unrecognizable when he was finished with it. Hayden said it looks like a wolf, but sits and stands like a human. It had human shaped hands and feet. And glowing silver eyes. She calls them, the Lycans. They weren't like us, they had more human characteristics. And the True Lycans, were just like them.
