Chapter 14: Moon Blessed

A year later...

"Alexa, come on. It's time to go." Kane says and I sigh. I grab my bag and follow him.

A year after the Donati men arrived, Kane had said I was to go "hunting" for a mate. He already has the way we were going. First was the U.S. then Canada and it continues on. Our last stop would be Italy.

We are now en route to our first stop, North Carolina. I knew the Alpha of the Dark Moon pack, my cousin Devon, was in California with her newfound mates, so we were to speak with the Beta Andrei.

"Alphas Sinclair, it is a pleasure." The Beta smiles and shakes our hand. "Alpha Female, it is so wonderful to meet you." His mate, June, says and she presses her cheek to mine in greeting. Echo was relishing in the touch of another wolf. It's been so long to be greeted that way. "Please come, our high ranking single males are waiting." They say and lead us to a large wooden building. I know my heat would come the moment the scent of unmated males reaches me. It was strange, most females go into heat once they are marked by their mate.

Andrei opens the door and immediately heads turn my way. I lift my head higher on instinct to show I wasn't markedly anyone. "You know, if this doesn't work, I'll have to put you up in the Gathering of Alphas. It'll be the only way to keep our pack's future strong." Kane whispers. "And you know I can't get pregnant anymore unless it's by my mate." I whisper back and he bites his tongue. Andrei helps me onto a raised platform. "This is Alpha Female Alexa Sinclair of the BloodiedPeak and RedHill packs." Andrei says loudly and the males look even more interested. I don't sense anyone I would like and I look at Kane.
Find anyone?
No, they're all lower in power than I am.
I'll tell Andrei once he's finished.
I nod once and my eyes roam over the males. One catches my eye but once he meets my eyes he lowers his. I feel Echo growing angry.
Why couldn't you have just accepted Rhys?
Because I don't like him. He isn't my mate, I can feel when they are.
So can I. And it's him!
No Echo. It's not. If I am going to the Gathering, then so be it.
Fuck you, Alexa.
Fuck you Echo. It will be me who suffers.
And it will be me who will suffer if he is over possessive and dominating.

I take a deep breath through my nose and not one catches my attention.
The Gathering starts in a week. We won't be able to finish our trip in time. We should head to Spain and France for the next three days so you can go to the Gathering.
Okay. I'm sort of nervous.
Of what? Everyone will like you.
I hope so.

Kane and I talk with the males and not one can hold my eye for longer than 30 seconds. Andrei notices and I apologize for wasting his time. He shakes it off saying he understands.

"Goodbye, Alexa." June smiles and she presses her cheek to mine in a hug. I return it. "Goodbye Alexa, have fun on your trip." Andrei says and he too presses his cheek to mine in a hug. I return it with a smile. "I hope to see each other again in the future." I say. "And best wishes to your Alpha Female Devon on finding her mates." I say before we get into the car.

"It so terrible what happened to Dev." Kane says. "What do you mean?" I ask. "Her brother and father were murdered. And they never found out who it was." He says and I cover my mouth. "That's horrible." I say and he nods. I honestly hated Devon gave up.

"You ready to visit Spain and France?" He asks and I grin. "Our visits there have to be brief. At least two packs a day." He says and I nod. "I'm sure it will be quick." I say as we begin to board our plane.

We land in Madrid and already one of the Enforcers of the Sandalio pack was waiting for us. "Alphas Sinclair, la bienvenida a Madrid. My name is Diego." He smiles kindly and I smile back. "It is a pleasure Diego." Kane says and shakes his hand. I press my cheek to his in greeting and he has a light blush on his cheeks. He takes our bags and puts them in the trunk then opens the door for us.
"How was your flight?" He asks. "It was nice. The views were beautiful." I answer and Kane nods. "Our Alpha has been talking of your visit nonstop for a week. He's very excited to meet the Sinclair siblings." He says and we laugh. It is very rare to have the both of us together.

He drives out of Madrid and into the countryside of the province. He takes us about an hour out into the sprawling hills into a small forest. I see a small lake on the way and I know I'll be visiting there soon.

He drives up a cobblestone road to a huge mansion and I stare up at it. It had to be at least four stories tall. The road circles around a beautifully carved stone fountain in the center. A tall dark haired man in a dress shirt and jeans comes out of the house with a large smile. Diego stops in front of the home and opens the door. "Axel." Kane smiles and hugs the man. "Kane, it has been too long." He says and I can hear his heavy Spanish accent. "Axel, this is my sister, Alexa." Kane holds his hand out for me and I come closer. Axel hugs me and presses his cheek to mine. I smile politely and step back beside my brother. His dark brown eyes flick around and he refuses to meet my own. Something was up, and I was going to find out what it is.
