I woke up to soft angelic music and the smell of warm apple cider.  I flutter my eyes as I feel around the lacy white comforter over top of me.  My arms and head were wrapped in soft bandages.  Looking around the small room, I see a small wardrobe with a little TV on it; the kind that your grandparents always had with the antenna that you have to bend and manipulate in order to get a picture.  Different floral arrangements were scattered around the room and there was a wooden rocking chair with an oversize knitted blanket that looked like a giant doily.  I struggled to sit up as the bed groaned loudly underneath me.  Within seconds a gray haired lady poked her head through the crack in the door and smiled at me.

"I was wondering when you'd be awake." she said cheerfully. "You've been sleeping for two whole days!"  She walked in with a tray full of tiny sandwiches and a glass of milk with bright pink and yellow flowers printed right on the side.  "I'm Laurietta but you can call me Mrs. Laurie." she introduced herself with a warm smile.  "I'm sure you're starved" she said as she sat the tray beside me on the bed and fluffed a pillow up behind me.

"Where's Alec?" I asked worried.  The last thing I remember was his bloody body on the ground.

"That was some crash you had young lady!" she said handing me a small sandwich.  I grabbed it thankfully and starred at it with no appetite.

"Is he okay?" I was scared for an answer.

"I found you guys on my morning walk.  I had to call one of my old friends to help me carry you guys back to my house."

I starred at her worried, waiting for her to finally answer me.

"Your friend is fine, dear." She looked at my sandwich and then up at me through her glasses motioning me to eat.  I obeyed.

"Where is he? I want to see him." she laughed at my eagerness.

"He is asleep in the next room, honey." she pointed to the door "You can see him once you finish eating."

I shoved three tiny sandwiches in my mouth and chugged the glass off milk and swung my feet over the bed.

"Be careful now, sweetie.  You don't want to hurt yourself again."

I ignored her and stumbled to my feet and out the door, grabbing onto everything I could so I didn't fall.  I looked back at her through the door and she pointed down the hall to a door ajar on the right hand side.  I shuffled over to the door and peaked my head inside to find Alec hooked up to monitors and bandaged from head to toe.  My eyes filled with tears as I walked over and sat on his bedside.  I held his bandaged hand and starred at him, crying quietly.

"He'll be okay, deary." Ms. Laurie said walking into the room slowly and sitting in a chair in the corner of the room.  "When I found you guys he was very weak, still is.  He had head trauma, three broken ribs, and a punctured lung."

Her words made tears pour down my face.

"Did you do all of this?" I asked looking around at the monitors and bandages, my own, even.

"I used to be a nurse a long long time ago in the military.  I had some equipment left over from when my husband passed here." she said forcing a smile.

I wiped my eyes and smiled at her, thanking her silently as I curled up next to Alec on the bed.  Ms. Laurie left me and Alec alone for some time.  I waited and waited for him to finally wake up but I fell asleep after about an hour.

"Would you like to come have dinner with me, love?" Laurie said startling me awake.  I looked at the time, 4 o'clock.  There was just a small amount of light left outside which turned the room a dark shade of blue.

I sat with Ms. Laurie at her small circle dinning room table.  She set a dinner plate on a large circle doily and placed some sort of casserole in the middle of it.  I didn't ask what it was, I just began shoveling it down.  I was starving.  She turned on a small TV that sat across the room on a mantle and turned it to channel seven news.  We both sat in silence watching the TV as we ate.

Suddenly I hear my name on the TV followed by Alec's name.  I looked up confused to see a picture of me on one side of the screen and Alec on the other.
