Josh's POV

"Joshua Hyland?"

I rushed to my feet and ran over to the nurse, Paige at my heels. "That's me" She nodded and lead us off. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Mikey grab Paige's hand and follow us. We reached a door but I knew it wasn't Chloe's room. "And who are you in relation to Chloe Lukasiak?" The nurse was looking over at Paige and Mikey. "Um I'm her best friend and his sister." Paige pointed at me. "And I'm her boyfriend." Mikey noticeably tightened his grip on Paige's hand. "Okay you two can go in." The nurse beckoned at Paige and I. "But you'll have to stay out here." Mikey nodded and walked off after quickly kissing Paige's cheek. The nurse pushed us towards the door and we stepped in. It was a doctors office. We took a seat and waited for the doctor. "Jo-Josh what happens if she's not okay?" I glanced at Paige's normally bright blue eyes. They were a misty gray, glassy with tears. "Paige the key word in that sentence is if. If implies possibility. If we believe it's not a possibility then it won't be. Be optimistic." She nodded and buried her head into my shoulder.

Paige's POV
A tall man in a white coat walks in silently. My tired eyes followed his movement across the room. He took a seat in a dusty looking desk chair. Josh's hand reached out and laced itself into mine. After a quick introduction the doctor sighed and stared us right in the eye. Josh squeezed my hand. I can tell he's nervous. "Chloe's condition isn't so great. For starters the baby is five weeks early. That's not ever a good sign. Then, there's the fact that because of Chloe's young age she's not as physically and mentally capable of successfully giving birth. The baby will be born alive. But she might not stay that way. I know it's a hard thing to face but it's reality. Chloe's life is also in danger. I want you to be prepared for that. I'll contact you if things change. Chloe will probably deliver in the next 12 hours." Josh ran out of the room and slammed the door. I hurriedly thanked the doctor and scurried out the door, trying to stop the flow of tears streaming down my face.

**Authors Note**
Argh this is intense. Sorry I hardly update and sorry for the short chapter. This book is almost finished but I'm having so much difficulty finishing it. Tonight alone I've already deleted 3 books. Writing's hard! I've got a new story up which is way better written than this one. After I finish this book I'm going to rewrite a lot better. I started it a long time ago and I've improved so much as a writer I'm kind of embarrassed of my first few chapters in this book. So please be patient with the slow updates!
