Callie's POV
I woke up to find myself in Alex's bed. I looked around the room, completely confused on when I fell asleep yesterday. I got up and walked into the living room. My bare feet feeling cold above the hard wood floor. I smelled the amazing scent of eggs and bacon as I entered the kitchen. Standing in front of the stove was a shirtless Alex. " Good morning, sleepy head," Alex said with an amused smile.
" Hey. Where'd you sleep last night?" I rubbed my eyes, feeling groggy still.
He put the last piece of sizzling bacon on a plate. " Well, after Mariana left, I found you asleep on my bed, so I slept in my parent's room." He pushed a plate with eggs and two bacon strips towards me. "Did you enjoy my bed?"
" It's pretty comfy." I bit into the fresh bacon and Alex joined me. I smiled as he sat down next to me. "You are literally the best friend ever."
He smiled and kissed my cheek. " I know I am." I gave him a warning stare after he kissing my cheek. He put his hands up in defense. " That was a friendly gesture. Besides, I'd never hit on you after what you're going through."
" Oh, yeah. Almost forgot about yesterday." He looked at me apologetically and I gave him a sad smile.
Alex grabbed my hand and said, "Go home when you're ready. My parents wouldn't care if you stayed."
" What about Lena and Steff?"
He shrugged, pulling out his phone. "We'll see..." I gave him a confused look that soon disappeared when he grabbed his phone. He's calling them. "Hey, Lena. I wanted to inform you that Callie would like to stay with me for a little while...don't worry I'll make sure she is on time to school every day...yep...okay thanks." He hung up then looked to me. " It's all good."
" That's because Lena trusts you."
He stood up and shrugged, taking my half eaten plate.
He looked down at it. " You aren't eating?"
" Not hungry," I replied nonchalant. He sighed and I knew he wasn't happy with that. I can't eat. One minute I feel completely happy here, and the next I can't get my mind off of Brandon.
I got up and yawned. " I'm going to go get dressed."
" Into what clothes? This is a new house, I don't have any of your clothes here."
I gave him a little pout and begged, "Would you be a good friend and go to my house to get my clothes?"
He looked down at his torso and laughed. " Sure, I'll just go over there shirtless. Brandon would sure love that. No, he'd probably appreciate you shirtless in his room." I shot him a mean and sad look, making my point across that that wasn't something I'd laugh to. " Sorry, not the right time for jokes.."Brandon's POV
" Brandon, come down for breakfast!" I heard my mom yell. I refuse to talk to them since they stopped caring where Callie was. I bet that bastard has hit on her so many times. Then I heard the doorbell ring and my mom answer it. " Alex...Yeah, go ahead."
I heard his quick footsteps come up the stairs, so I opened my door just as he came up. Crossing my arms, I leaned on my door frame. " The hell are you doing here?" He rolled his eyes and went to Callie's room. "Get out of Callie's room."
" I'm getting her clothes." He stated, not looking towards me. I watched him carefully to make sure that's what he really was doing. For some reason I have never been very fond of Alex. Actually, no. I can't stand the guy.
I impatiently started tapping my foot. " Are you done yet?" He gave me a death glare and I stopped talking. He got up with Callie's stuff and started walking to the door. Before he could leave the room, I grabbed his arm. " Is she okay? Is she...hurt?" My voice cracked as I said that last part. I saw the way she left. I know she wasn't okay.
I think he could tell I was really worried for her because his facial expression changed to sympathy. "She's fine. Don't worry about it."
I let go of him. " Okay. Yeah, okay." We both didn't say anything after that. I let him leave and my heart throbed.Callie's POV
The minute Alex walked through the door, I snatched my stuff from him, said a quick thank you, and ran to the room to change into my clothes.
I came back out of the bathroom in my red/purple panda shirt with light blue jeans. I had curled my hair into light waves, just the way I like it. I saw Alex had his car keys in his hands. " Where are you going?"
" We are going to go get you a job. Just something for you to do to help you keep your mind busy." I smiled.
" Thank you." We exchanged smiles and then left.
After the interview ended, me and Alex went to get frozen yogurt. Walking into the frozen yogurt place, memories of me and Brandon flooded my head. I remember despising Brandon, barely even trusting him. Now that I think of it, Brandon was so patient with me. He always let me yell at him, call him an ass, and even kiss him then turn it against him. He protected me, and made so many attempts to make me feel safe. " Cal, you okay?" Alex's voice snapped me out of my thoughts. I hadn't noticed a few tears escaped my eyes.
I wiped a few of them away and cleared my throat so I sounded more sure of myself. " Yeah. I'm fine."
" You're thinking of Brandon. Aren't you?"
Alex always knows when I'm lying, so there was no point in attempting to. " He is such a great guy. I just...don't know."
Alex walked over to the machines. "Well, I know what always cheers my best friend up." I smiled, trying hopelessly to feel happy.
He got me a plain Vanilla and himself a rocky road. I felt a bit better as I ate my frozen desert, but I couldn't shake the thoughts that kept coming and leaving my head.
After we ate, Alex took me back to his house. He turned on a movie and sat next to me. I smiled at him as a thanks for the day. After a few minutes into the movie, I fell asleep.
" Cal, the movie's over." I heard Alex say into my ear. I woke up and checked the time on my phone. Wow, it's already ten o'clock.
" How many movies did you watch because the movie you put on was only two hours and it's been six."
He chuckle and responded with, "Maybe a few more after that. I didn't want to wake you."
I rolled my eyes. " You still could have at least gotten up."
" No I couldn't. You fell asleep on me."
I stood up from the couch. " Well, I'm going to get ready for bed. Goodnight." As I walked away I heard him say it back.Brandon's POV
I'm so angry at my mom! Every time I try bringing Callie up, she either shuts it down, or gives me a death glare. It's been two weeks- TWO WEEKS- since Callie left and started staying with Alex. I haven't seen or talked to her at all. At school I usually ask Mariana where Callie is, or how she's doing, but she just shrugs. I'd ask Alex, but I hate talking to him. Luckily, Jesus is finally available to hang out, so we're going to go to Not A Burger Stand after school.
Another day of school and still no sign of Callie. I'm starting to think she's avoiding me, but if she is, I'd appreciate her letting me know.
" Hey, how come Callie isn't around you anymore?" Jesus asked as I drove us to Not A Burger Stand. He noticed too.
I shrugged, acting like I didn't care and that I wasn't desperate to talk to her. " She's staying with a...friend for a little while."
" Did something happen between you two?" I tensed. I wasn't sure how he'd react to my feelings towards Callie, so I just shook my head. He changed the subject, but I could tell he wanted to know more.
Once we got there, I parked the car and we headed in. We walked up to the girl at the register. She had her hair done in multiple braids and didn't seem like a huge smiler. "Could I get two burgers and two cokes?"
" Sure," she stated with no emotion in her tone.
Me and Jesus sat down at a table outside. " She seemed cheery," Jesus stated with humor in his voice. " I wonder who shit in her coffee?" Both of us broke out into laughter.
" Who knows. Maybe someone pissed in her tea as well." By now me and him were completely laughing at our own jokes.
Eventually our laughter slowly came to a stop. " Okay, I got two burgers and two cokes." I stopped what I was doing. I recognized that voice anywhere.
I figured she didn't notice it was me because she was distracted. " Callie?" I looked up, afraid that there might be a small chance it isn't her.
It was her. She sat down our food, and I don't think she was paying attention at all really because she just nodded like I had just magically guessed her name. Until she finally figured it out. " Wait..," she started, but stopped herself.
I didn't hesitate, I stood up and kissed her full on the mouth. She leaned into the kiss and I felt a smile form on her lips. We probably would have continued if Jesus hadn't interrupted us by clearing his throat. I pulled away and there was an awkward silence. " I should, uh, get back to work." Callie said, and then left. I was so shocked by what had just happened, it took me a minute to fully wrap my head around it.You guys have stopped commenting, I noticed. I really would love your thoughts on this book PLEASE!
