Chris P.O.V.

It had been five days since Lauryn had been released and I had been waiting on her hand and foot. We had discussed our situation at the hospital and came to a consensus that I needed to be there for her more. I wasn't leaving her side again. But something about her still felt off to me.

"Chris," I heard her call from our bedroom. I ran carefully up the spiral staircase, making sure not to spill the glass of water if retrieved for her.

"How are you feeling baby girl?" I asked her.

"Chris, we need to talk," she answered, looking down.

"You can talk to me about anything," I said, brushing her hair out of her eyes. "Anything at all. What's up?"

"Chris...I've been...I've been thinking about this for a while now. But it's serious now." She sighed and looked down again. "You can't be in this business anymore...and still try and be with me," she stated defiantly.

I nodded my head, knowing this conversation was coming sooner or later.

"Chris, I'm serious. I will pack my shit and leave whether it's before I deliver this baby or after. I'm not having my child around you if situations like this are gonna happen occasionally. I would never put my child in danger like that, ever."

I didn't speak for a moment as I thought.

I'd wanted to be out of this business since the day I started. If it weren't for my dad, I would've never been involved. I didn't want to do this, especially not anymore. But the hard part would be facing my father. I knew he wasn't gonna let me out easily, or even let me out at all. He'd ask a bunch of questions and try and figure out what the real reason of me leaving was. Whoever it was, he kill. Whatever it was, he'd get rid of. And I hadn't told him about Lauryn to keep her safe.

"Lauryn," I began.

"It's yes or no Chris," she spat back quickly. I climbed across her and lay my head on her lap.

"I understand you baby." I looked up at her and made eye contact. "I'm gonna make this right, I promise." I kissed her stomach and rubbed on our child. It'd be here any day now.
