"What if I scare them?" Jin frowned, Namjoon laughing as he looped his arm around the other's waist, guiding him into the huge building. "They'll love you! It's just a play date remember" Jin nodded. Despite him being the one to want kids the most, Namjoon was calmer and more collected about it as they made their way inside the local orphanage, well, it wasn't really local, but was the closest as they were often several miles away from the centre of any cities.
"How can I help you?" a soft voiced woman asked from behind the front desk, adjusting her glasses slightly. "Hello, I am Kim Namjoon and this is my husband Kim Seokjin, we've come for our arranged play date" she nodded, clicking through her computer as she looked for some sort of information form to prove of their arrangement. "Ah yes, and did you bring all of the required paper work, Mr. Kim?" "Please, call me Namjoon" he grinned, passing over the folder of documents. "If you'd like to follow me this way" both men nodded as she got up from her seat, showing them the journey through the many corridors. "We've picked a few children at different ages so you can get a more varied feel for the children, though these may not be the ones you end up hoping to adopt, depending on your files and what you feel about the kids" Jin hummed, talking briefly about how he was a little nervous. "Don't worry I'm sure they'll love you".
As soon as the door opened, Namjoon held Jin's hand tightly, about 7 children looked wide eyed with goofy smiles towards the new people. "Children, this is Jin and Namjoon, they'll be playing with you for a little while, so share your toys" she said gently, smiling when the youngest of the children came and hugged her leg. "Be good" she warned, all of them replying "Yes Miss" in unison before the door was closed and the two men were left to it. "Hi kids!" Namjoon grinned, kneeling down so he was at the same height as them. "Hello!" one little girl chuckled, running over and inspecting him. "Purple!" she pointed towards his hair, tugging at it with her hands. "Yes! That's right! Purple. Do you like it?" "It looks pwetty" she giggled, patting his head causing Jin to laugh, his nerves easing slightly.
"I have some cookies for you guys" Jin said softly, all of their little limbs crawling towards him. "So yummy!" a little boy said, rubbing his stomach comically. "Jin is the best baker and cook you'll find!" Namjoon exclaimed, making the other blush slightly. "So what do you want to play, kiddos?" he added, after they'd eaten their small cookies of course. "Cars!" "Dollies!" a few of them said at the same time, "How about we play with the dolls over here?" Jin suggested as Namjoon began setting up a track with some of the other children. "This is my doll, she's called Jennie" a small girl, whom Jin assumed to be about 4, said whilst taking off its hat so she could slip another dress over her body. "And she likes all these pretty clothes?" Jin smiled, enjoying how happy she seemed to be by simply dressing a figure.
Meanwhile, Namjoon had expertly arranged a race track, using building blocks as walls and some boxes as houses and bridges. "So cool! Thank you" one of the little boys bowed, reminding Namjoon instantly of Tae. He had a similar boxy smile, and seemed just as excitable. "Appa, car!" A little 2 year old giggled, pushing a big car along the makeshift road. "I'm not appa... But okay" and then he started making 'vroom' noises, enthusiastically pretending to be a monster truck that was trying to eat the other cars. The kids loved it.
"Do you like makeup?" one of the girls asked Jin whilst brushing his hair, he was sat patiently, though grew increasingly worried as to what the kids were doing to his precious hair. "Of course! I love makeup" "But you're a boy?" she frowned, confused. "It doesn't matter if you're a boy or a girl, you can play with what you like" she smiled, picking up her 'makeup' bag and shyly looking at the ground. "C-Can I do your makeup?" "Of course!" he grinned, more than happy at the way her face lit up. "Yay!" "But I wanted to" another whined, "You can do my hair" he offered. "And can I do your nails?" the last and slightly older girl asked, maybe about 6, though her nail polish was only a small child's set. "Sure, why not?".
All the children were pouting when they had to leave, the smallest boy clinging to Namjoon's leg this time. "We'll come visit again" Jin reassured, smiling as the small girl that did his makeup waddled over and kissed him on the cheek when he bent down to say goodbye. "It seems like you really got along with them" the woman from earlier said, leading them to the office where one of the managing assistants was. "Hello, please take a seat" she smiled, both of them bowing to show their respect. "So, did you get along with the children?" "They were amazing" Namjoon smiled, it'd been a while since he'd had so much innocent fun like that, as a child himself. "They're all gorgeous, such lovely children" Jin added, she flicked through a couple of their papers before leaning closer over the desk.
"It seems you may be in luck judging by the specifications you have written that you'd prefer, we may have some children available for you" "Some?" Namjoon raised an eyebrow questioningly, "Yes... Well you see, this woman just about a month or two ago, she dumped her children here. They're twins, a boy and a girl, 3 years old, nearly 4" "Why would she dump children at 3 years old?" Jin wondered aloud, "She only explained briefly, but her boyfriend left her once he found out what happened of course, a young couple having sex unprotected" Namjoon nodded, though couldn't help wondering how people could be so careless.
"Anyway, she did try to support herself, but ultimately with working shifts day and night, she couldn't do it. So, she figured it'd be better to give them up so they'd have a better chance at living a good life..." "That must've been hard" Jin frowned, not imagining ever being able to make that choice. "Well they're very sweet children, and I think you'd be the perfect parents for them" Jin gasped, "Really?!" the younger simply grinned, holding his hand tightly, knowing how much this meant to him.
"I'll contact you within the next couple of weeks, some finalisations have to be checked and such, to double check you're suitable to adopt these children". Jin nodded, wiping his eyes, "It's okay sweetie, don't cry" Namjoon said softly, dabbing at his eyes, "We're going to do this" he whispered, laying a quick kiss on his lips. "Thank you for your time" he said, turning to the woman a little embarrassed. "No no, thank you. The children seemed so happy, I'm sure you'll make great parents. "Thank you" the eldest cried, gripping ontp Namjoon's arm as they made their way back to the car. "Don't worry, we can do it, I promise you, baby" Namjoon reassured, holding him tightly. He just hoped the phone call would be positive.
